About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“The gym is very well equipped though very rarely manned if you need assistance. The classes are also mainly very good.”

“HALO have recently taken over Torfaen leisure trust and have not put in place a suitable payment option or method for me to purchase additional swimming lessons, which may result in my son losing his place. I have engaged and communicated with HALO by emailing, calling, call back option, downloading the HALO app and using AI for the past 4 weeks and still no help. This is getting ridicules with no end in sight. Does anyone else having the same issues?”

“Generally a good place, just 2 criticisms The first is about the changing rooms. Not enough cubicles and lockers frequently don’t work. The next is about the lack of spaces in some classes and difficulty in booking on. There should be more aquafit and Pilates classes to meet demand.”

“Poor quality equipment not what you would expect when paying £26 a month. Equipment regularly broken and not fixed in a timely manner.”

“The centre is good. It would be nice if holiday/ sickness of classes could be covered. There are supply staff who are often available. There needs to be a cleaner continously in changing room areas, they are not clean”

“Reception staff had no manners and seemed as if she was getting frustrated with me (when she couldn't spell my name due to not understanding my Northen accent) Then just before we got in the pool that's when we found out their was staff training which ended up cramming the lanes. I feel as if we should've had notice on this. Then when asking lifeguard a question they were rude, impolite and demanded numerously they would get the manager when all what was asked was a simple question which was "can we not be informed when staff training is on?" . Then 2 lifeguards continued to give awful facial expressions towards your paying customers trying to enjoy a nice swim. I would like to add that their should be a quality of care towards costumers as this is the only place I can go to relax, and have some me time. Usually I never have an issue when I visit and go for a swim but this time it felt as if the staff do not care about the customers. The lifeguards do not lifeguards properly as I did 4 full lengths without the lifeguards paying attention to the swimmers and was more interested in what the staff were doing in training.”

“Very good. Staff are brilliant and kind Jets in the hot tub in health suite seem to not be working properly? I had noticed the changing rooms no longer smell of urine when near/walking past the toilets which is great, keep it up. It helps make the changing rooms feel more clean, even if it is just a smell”

“I have been to Pontypool ALC a few times since Halo has taken over. Your staff on the reception are absolutely wonderful; friendly & helpful. From helping to get drinks stuck in the vending machine to assisting me with registering on the new app, all brilliant. Nothing too much trouble. We don't live in Pontypool, we live in Blaenau Gwent but they don't have any quiet ASD sessions so we have been coming to Pontypool on a Fri afternoon and are so impressed with how organised everything is. Thankyou for a brilliant service and kind, caring staff. We will be continuing to visit your quiet session every Friday afternoon. Thankyou so much for thinking of children / people who need this session.”
