About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Recently taken over Cwmbran Leisure who we use weekly for swimming lessons and soft play.Every week there is a problem with non disabled people taking up disabled spaces making it difficult for me as a disabled badge user with a child on the spectrum.Was told to fill in feedback form and await response within 72 hours.This was 2 weeks ago and still the problem persists and nobody has contacted me!”

“The pool is excellent- exceptionally clean and well maintained. The changing rooms need better cleaning. Particularly the showers. Hair and shampoo deposits are left for weeks suggesting they need cleaning fully behind the doors as well as just hosing down with the door open . There has are limescale deposits which need a good scrub and one of the locks on the showers has been broken for 2 years. The centre staff are friendly and helpful and the classes always full.”

“The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The gym facilities are very good however the pool and changing rooms are very dated and required an update. I am really enjoying the spin classes however it is an absolute nightmare to get a place booked. The classes are in high demand and there are not enough bikes/classes to meet demands.”

“When I joined a was using facilities alot during the day, changed to evenings for classes but found that after the kids swimming lesson the changing rooms are left with their clothes in and then grubby from there shoes ,talc hair ect. This made my experience poor.”

“Please stop posting in the local halo leisure group (Meon Vale) about competitions for things like swim lessons which aren’t even available at Meon Vale OR a centre near by- is frustrating! A huge hike in membership costs (personally not honouring my blue light pre halo takeover in particular) while skimping on staffing, lack of classes on a weekend and not actually promoting what is going on locally (I.e personalising to your existing and prospective members) - does not make for a successful take over and ownership of a leisure centre. On the positive side the equipment is great, the staff are all brilliant and the classes that do run, are well led and managed- this has all stayed consistent due to the wonderful people at the centre, not due to the take over.”

Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable feedback with us. I’m sorry to hear that you're feeling frustrated about the social media posts. The team has noticed this as well, and we are actively working to ensure that future posts are more relevant to our centre specifically. When Halo took over, we honoured existing membership prices, including your Blue Light discount. However, that grace period ended after five months, as the discounted rates were not sustainable. The original prices were too low to cover the rising costs of bills, maintenance, and overall site operations. As a charity and social enterprise, every penny we generate is reinvested back into improving our facilities and services. Unfortunately, we do not have the financial reserves to absorb increasing costs, which is why we had to adjust our pricing. As a legacy member, your current rate is aligned with our under-24s membership — the lowest rate we offer. We truly hope you understand the necessity behind this change. We appreciate your suggestion about offering weekend classes. We are currently reviewing class schedules to see where we can add more sessions, including a potential weekend class. Before we commit, we need to ensure proper coverage and minimal disruption to current operations. Once a decision is made, we will update all members. “Needs updating again on the outside and inside, absolutely filthy floors and changing rooms which have bad smells of urine Never any managers around except young staff not doing much in the way of cleaning areas or checking people are not wearing outdoor shoes walking into the changing rooms or near the pools waiting for their kids to come out It is a shame but standards have dropped quite a bit. It is a popular pool but people will go elsewhere if they are not careful”

“Great staff, amazing lessons and perfect gym for what I need. Hereford leisure centre has everything I need in a gym, with a good variety of classes at multiple timings of day, all at right price. I have been a member for many years and have no reason to change.”
