About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“(I'm only a pool user). Good vibe with the place, always well presented. Has been an issue in recent times over pool water temperature. As an 'old' person it was often feeling chilly. Such that I did think about moving elsewhere. BUT for the last month or so, water has been consistently warmer and the joy of swimming has returned to me! Staff almost universally friendly and helpful. One criticism. Repairs can take ages. A shower door broke and it took two years to replace, has been now. But a cubicle door broke several weeks ago and not been sorted yet. Small point tho'.”

“Have had issues n the past but generally these facilities are good. I use the pool and sports centre several times a week when. Am well enough. So thankful to have these on our doorstep”

“Lack of space and equipment, one piece of machine for a muscle group, one cable machine ( recently broken!) When the machine, attachment brakes it takes ages to get it replaced.Gym closes at 1pm during weekends when most people are free! The only good thing I can say about the centre its their dedicated and friendly staff.I believe they have no power to improve the place.I have been to other centres like Hereford or Leominster and the difference is huge! Why the investments are happening in other centres and Bromyard is left out?!”

“Need a better variety of fitness classes e.g. bring back Body Attack, Boxfit, Body Combat. I end up going to the same class twice in a week because there aren't enough different ones. More classes on weekends too, and weeknights at 5.45pm so it gives people a chance to get to them after work.”

“I do Spin at Hereford leisure pool. The sound system set up is poor to say the least. It really needs updating rather than a speaker in the corner that has to be turned right up for all to hear. Unlucky if your bike is next to the speaker. On a positive, Simon the instructor really gives his all for the 45 minutes, with some great tunes to spin to.”

“When gym machines are broken they take ever and a day to get fixed, but you still want me to pay for the full membership for the month you should at least give a discount, and I think you should make it a 24 hour gym, Halo is so beyond the times in the real world most people can’t use the gym at 7 in the morning because work?”

“The gym and its staff are excellent, but I believe an additional Smith machine would be a valuable addition. The main drawback, in my opinion, is the lack of Wi-Fi and phone signal. As someone who typically works out during business hours, having reliable signal is crucial. Providing customers with Wi-Fi or even enabling phone signal for personal data use seems like a basic necessity.”

We are glad that you enjoy your time at the centre and we are pleased that you find the staff excellent. l will ensure that we make the staff aware of your lovely comments. The library has moved out and they provided the wifi. This point has been raised with senior management. Maesteg Sports Centre is an old listed building with thick walls hence why we have issues with phone signals within the building. Kind regards Maesteg Staffing Team
