About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Great, friendly staff who keep a well maintained gym and centre. I think the turnaround to fix broken gym equipment needs to be quicker as sometimes I don’t feel as if I get total value for money.”

“The health gain I receive from Rhydycar Halo Centre at Merthyr Tydfil is in my opinion both good value for money but also high quality of health care. I particularly find all the trainers at the centre very good at motivating health gain. The exercise classes are always varied and good fun. I feel it’s like having a personal trainer encouraging me to achieve. In addition the re-opening of the pool is great for both adults and children alike.”

“The facilities are okay, i spent my time on halo using the gym and i found that the there were not enough machines. Not enough cables and plates. If they were to upgrade the whole gym i would consider coming back.”

“The desk staff are lovely and Phoebe is a terrific instructor. The classes on offer are adequate although it can be hard to get a place in the classes.”

“We had a soft play party for my daughter at Halo Bridgend on Saturday 2nd November and I cannot praise the centre enough. The soft play was clean and tidy and the conference room was ready for us well in advance of the start time so we could set up. At the end of the party, the staff went out of their way to help us clear up and carry our belongings down to the car. Great value for money too as we booked for half price on an open day earlier in the year. Thank you Halo Bridgend for a fantastic experience, I was very pleasantly surprised.”

“When the gym is quiet it is brilliant. The machines are mostly well maintained, it is kept clean, and staff are polite. Unfortunately I think it is overbooked at peak times (mainly 5-7pm on weekdays) and it can be so busy it's impossible to get on a machine. Also the check-in process is extremely confusing - the technology to tap your phone or scan the QR code doesn't work, so you have to ask the staff for a pin number to enter the gym, which is fine unless there is a long queue and then you waste time - frustrating when you have to pay for the car park too and time is ticking!”
