About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Most Staff are fab. The swimming pool needs an upgrade. The changing rooms floors have rips in them. Bottom of doors the wood had eraded, not many lockers work,looks a bit neglected. Health suit the same really. Also I have seen some insects by the door of the sauna and by the drain in the middle of the sitting area in the health suit.”

“Staff are friendly ,knowledgable and helpful. A mixture of classes offered. Although it is difficult to get places on some classes even when trying to book at 7am when classes become available for 2 weeks time.”

“Cleanliness of overall facilities to a poor standard, changing rooms are dated, 3/4 swimming lockers don’t work, changing room floor grubby, child’s pool too cold for younger children, dogs allowed within eating areas, more facilities needed for younger children, during a recent visit to Cwmbran stadium soft play toilets pleasantly displayed overflowing dirtied female pads next to toilet…. Explain that to a child using a toilet!”

“Love my local centre and the classes that they provide. Although the changing facilities are something that needs updating so that full use of the facilities can be utilised. If the men’s changing rooms had appropriate amenities such mirrors, hair dryers, decent clean showers I could use the gym before/after work without worrying.”

“The coaches for the gp referral scheme are kind , caring and simply wonderful . They have so much patience . Christine and Neil particularly . I feel safe with them and they still stretch me in each class . Can't thank them enough”

“I think Halo as a gym has a wide range of equipment. I find if I go in the daytime it’s not to busy and I can complete my workout in an hour. However, I find if I go at peak time there are often lots of teenagers who do sets in big groups (sometimes 4 or 5 people). This means I can have workouts where it is impossible to use any of the equipment. I am a young adult myself and think it’s great for teenagers to be in the gym. But the gym is a place to get on with exercise and when this is impossible it puts me off using the gym. My suggestion would be more boundaries around using equipment e.g max 2 people alternating on a machine. Other than this the actually gym space is great and I love the new equipment”

“Room for improvement on the cleaning side. Customers don't like the timetable altered at the last minute (unless an extreme emergency).....not everyone lives close by and not everyone has access to a computer or Facebook to check every 5 mins.”

Hi Christina, Thank you for your review. We are working to continuously improve the cleanliness of the centre and we hope that you have seen an improvement in the recent months. We appreciate that the timetable changes were a nuisance for a lot of emmbers, however, we have managed to streamline the timetable a lot more and we hope to keep the majority of the timetable the same moving forward with small changes for school holidays.
