About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

Good morning Ian, Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable feedback. We appreciate you bringing the music volume to our attention — this is something we’ll look into, as the sound quality and volume can vary between tracks. We’re also aware of the busy periods, and we do our best to have a team member present in the gym whenever possible. However, during holidays or when staff are away, there may occasionally be only one person on shift in the evening, which can make it challenging to cover all areas. That said, we’ll make sure to spend more time in the gym during peak hours to improve support and visibility. Kind regards, The Halo Team

“The centre is close, reasonably priced, parking is free and plentiful. Enough equipment for my needs in the gym. Very helpful receptionist.”

“There is a lack of cover when instructors are on holiday and classes are cancelled at short notice. There is no reduction in fees when this occurs, or notice given, and over the last couple of months this been frequent. The staff are great and I am sure are fed up with complaints. Attendee numbers at classes has reduced recently and this is probably due to members leaving the centre. You need to have a pool of instructors who can cover at short notice to manage this.”

Hi Maddy, Thank you for your feedback. We genuinely appreciate your concerns regarding instructor availability and class cancellations. We understand how disruptive this can be, and we’re actively working on increasing our staffing levels. Rest assured, we value your membership and want to improve your experience at Halo. As with all memberships, they are based on using the whole centre, even at times when we can't find cover for classes, the pool and gym are still available for use. We don't offer group exercise-only memberships; therefore, reductions in fees won't apply. Warm regards, Team

“Weekend again no toilet roll in the disabled toilets. If the doors are not locked so you can’t access them or barricaded so nobody can get through. This is a fire hazard! Tried to upload pics but it doesn’t allow it for some reason 🙄”

“Fantastic relaxed atmosphere; friendly helpful staff. Very well stocked gym and all other rooms including pool complex all work well. Be great in future if gym changing rooms could be redesigned to offer a shower complex more tucked away, spare full size basin to allow for flannel - wash refresh. Low intensity group work outs like Ady Watts offers be good too for 60's and over. Be nice to have floating gym expert around at times. Road outside leading to car park appears very narrow, making passing tight.”

“I think everything is good at Pontypool Leisure Centre but I think the gym membership is expensive”

“A small but well equipped gym.The repairs take too long , that is my only criticism. Staff friendly & helpful. Its a big building and some rooms seem empty, perhaps they can be converted to more gym space, like stretching/warming up area?”
