About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I particularly like the daily classes that are held in the studio. Al the instructors are professional & very capable. It would be very nice to have refreshments available (even a coffee machine) or a at best a cafe.”

“The staff are great & facilities have improved, especially the new lockers. Some showers are far too hot but at least they aren't cold. However sometimes the main pool temperature is too cool & needs to be increased a bit to swim comfortably sometimes. Also far to many people just leave their clothes in changing rooms & they should be removed to make it clear that it's unacceptable to just leave your things in changing rooms.”

“I visit every day doling small group training I always enjoy the workout with pleasant and knowledgeable trainers The cafe and reception Is light and bright and an enjoyable area to talk to a large variety of members who meet up there aftervexercises pleasant”

“I only use the hydro pool, which is a great facility to have. As I use a wheelchair I find that 1 disabled changing room is not enough. The lift is often not working properly which means I cannot use it independently and always need help. Ease of accessibility needs to be addressed. Fantastic staff.”

“A pleasant experience at Bridgend Leisure Centre. Customer service is always very good along with the cleanliness. Although recently the water pressure for the swimming pool showers has decreased with the temperature also becoming unbearably inconsistent (very cold then very hot). Please seriously consider changing this back to how it was a few months ago (consistently warm and powerful), as this is unfortunately hindering what was previously an excellent experience. Thank you!”

“Without exception ,all the instructors are very approachable,friendly ,professional and helpful. Reception staff are also very helpful. The building itself is fairly out of date now with obvious wear and tear issues and damage. Although the swimming pools were recently repaired and refurbished. I would comment on the cleanliness of the ( female) toilets and changing areas, these are sometimes smelly and lacking in soap and hand drying facilities even before 10.00 am ,before lots of visitors to the centre. Can this be due to cleaning staff or public disrespect ?”

“I came into pontypool leisure centre over the weekend to get myself a gym membership. The lady named Tia behind front desk was extremely rude, wasn’t helpful whatsoever and told me she couldn’t help, when I asked if there was anything she could do to help me she told me to “just go and call the number on the website” I would also like to express that it’s extremely off putting with how bad she smelt, awful awful personal hygiene! Something should really be done about this”

“The pool itself was great and not too busy, which made for a pleasant swim. However, the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. I was appalled by the state of the changing rooms: used tissues were scattered across the floor, along with what appeared to be food debris that I had to kick aside just to get changed. The area outside the cubicles was covered in dirt and chewing gum, and the poolside had rubbish littered around it. The lifeguard on duty also seemed disengaged. Shouting “Walk” at a six-year-old who briefly ran didn’t have the desired effect — understandably, my son didn’t react to the tone. I spoke to him myself and explained why running wasn’t appropriate, which he understood. The lifeguard gave the impression he’d rather be elsewhere. Please address the cleanliness issues — they’re undermining what could otherwise be a great facility.”

“The only negative experiences I have at Halo would be the Secondary School boys coming in and being disrespectful to the gym and to its members. I personally think that some of those children are too young to be allowed in a gym and could risk serious injury.”
