About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Halo in Kington is a truly welcoming place. Classes are fun and suit a range of fitness levels. Clare and Steve go the extra mile to inject variety and I always leave feeling better than when I arrived. Never thought I would enjoy exercise. Thank you.”

“Didn't cancel my contract then tried to charge me for the following month still an ongoing issue. Since the price increased it doesn't feel worth it. You can not call this gym as nobody answers. On a positive note the staff are friendly and the gym is clean just not worth the price I used this as the location is great but lack of facilities for the price.”

“The centre is friendly and has superb trainers and support staff. The gym is well equipped (recently refurbed with new gear). The classes offered are varied and fun - the instructors are superb - very motivating and supportive. Most of all it’s a close knit community centre and members cherish what Marcus and his team have achieved”

“Was at Pontypool Leisure Centre today for Aqua Aerobics and found it disappointing not to be let into the pool area until 2 minutes after the class was due to start and then during the class, the Instructor saw a ball of hair in the water and reported it to the same life guard, who radioed someone. The cleaning team appeared on the balcony but did not come down to look or deal wit the hair in the pool. The lifeguards then changed and the instructor spoke to the new one, who again radioed someone and the cleaning team came down but the lifeguard was left to get the net and clean the hair from the pool. At one stage both myself and a lady next to me both had hair caught on our hands, which was extremely unpleasant. I also do have to say, albeit this was extremely disappointing to see, this is the first time, i have seen it.”

“I have been attending Pontypool leisure centre >8 years now & have always noticed that there are so many unused cardio equipment (there’s about 10 elliptical type machines) but only 1 stairmaster which is always in use. Please consider swapping one of the many unused cardio machines for another stairmaster Secondly, please can we have more mats in the gyms itself. There is usually only 1. The squash courts get absolutely roasting, there appears to be heating but no other form of ventilation? Please consider adding in HVAC. Finally, almost every Sunday the LBT classes get cancelled & sometimes we don’t even get an email. This is completely unprofessional & very inconvenient. If the instructor can’t or won’t do Sunday, simply remove it from the schedule then.”

“Recently joined the exercise referral scheme and impressed with range of equipment available. Bot instructors have given excellent guidance and advice as a newbie. The whole of the centre appears to be clean which is vital to a lot of people- only downside I was advised the sauna/ jacuzzi has been out of order since Covid which is disappointing.”

“Staff are fantastic. Great customer service skills. Pool is a wonderful facility but sometimes a bit on the cold side for my young son. The viewing area is stiffingly hot if you are observing children's swimming session.”
