About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I attend the Pontypool centre and toilets are often in poor repair with seats missing or doors not locking properly. In the swimming changing rooms there are two hairdryers and either one or both are frequently out of order.”

“The lifeguards let the youths get out of control and made the experience of taking my grandson not enjoyable, all the lifeguards did was sit and talk to each other, absolutely appalled”

“Staff are always really nice and friendly always helpful Classes are good fun, wish but more variety in the evening to fit in with work. Facilities could be cleaned more. Often the changing rooms are dirty and needs cleaning. Equipment either is fixed asap or takes forever. But always have a good experience while I'm there.”

“Gym is always clean and staff are always friendly and helpful; my only two slight criticisms are that it could do with a bit more machinery, maybe another cable machine and an ab crunch and lateral raise machine, and the booking criteria needs enforcing too often there are groups of younger lads just hanging around rather than using the equipment. Maybe having a trained staff member walking around the floor giving people help and a guidance wouldn't be a bad thing either?”

Hi Caroline, Thank you for your recent review. It is great to read your positive comments about our centre. Our classes are released at 7:00am for two weeks time for members, non members are able to book one week in advance. We do have a waiting list for each class where if a space becomes available an automated email will be sent out to every one, it is then first come first serve. We believe this is the fairest way possible. We tend to find that spaces do come available from the release date to the day of the class. “At the Bridgend Centre the free weight section is currently arranged so all of the weights are placed in front of the mirrors so there's only a small section where you can actually see yourself while you exercise to monitor form etc. Poorly laid out and it used to be different so can be done”

“Staff fantastic, always friendly and welcoming. The sports hall is very tired and needs a revamp, and cold in the winter. The hall lighting is poor with one light not working. Showers are either cold or just luke warm”

“All the staff at Ledbury are brilliant and so helpful. It was only because of time issues i had to withdraw my membership. Halo's approach to how a membership should operate is second to none and once time allows I will be rejoining but until then it will have to be pay as you swim for me .”

“Aquacise staff are all absolutely brilliant. Friendly , professional and encouraging as shown by the popularity of their classes. However the ladies’ changing rooms, showers and toilets really need attention. Many lockers don’t lock, there are no hooks in the shower cubicles Even first thing in the morning the toilets smell of urine with broken , often empty toilet roll holders For over a week the the same soap caddies and paper towel dispensers have been empty. This is so unhygienic. Please get this sorted as it’s letting down an otherwise great venue.”
