About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Andrea is an amazing. Offers a huge range of classes, but when she is away there are often insufficient people to maintain her classes. We miss Val's pilates. Reception can be erratic but staff are generally friendly. The centre has a good atmosphere”

“Nice and clean gym, some decent machines but they have crammed them in with little to no space between each machine and only enough space for one person doing floor exercises or stretching at a time. A couple of cycling machines but they are so old style and not for serious exercise, no peloton or spinning type machines.”

Good evening, Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable feedback with us. We’re currently planning to create more space for stretching and floor exercises. To make this possible, we need to relocate one of our existing machines to another centre. Once that’s done, we’ll be able to open up additional floor space. “Instructors are well trained/friendly/approachable. Classes are varied. Cleanliness I think is an issue. The leisure centre doesn’t appear to be that clean especially the toilets. Considering the fees have gone up 3x in the last year or so, I feel this issue needs to be rectified.”

“Halo is a decent gym and the swimming pool is good in Ross-on-Wye. Staff are friendly and helpful. What it lacks is free parking. The fact gym members have to pay to park at the Red Meadow Car Park is a major drawback for those wishing to exercise in the day. Free or reduced cost to park for gym members should be considered by Halo bosses/Herefordshire Council. Lockers in the gym would also be good as they used to have the pre-Covid.”

Hi, Thank you for your recent review, it is great to hear your positive comments about our staff. We have previously spoken to the council about the parking however we were unsuccesful in coming to resolution. There is a free carpark a short walk away, if you ask a member of our team we will happily tell you the location. We now have pods in the corridor which you are able to store your belonings, lockers are also available in the changing rooms if required. Thank you

“The classes and instructors are great, but the carpark is awful. Often late for classes as unable to park. Membership prices increasing but there doesn’t seem to be any better facilities?”

“As a non-swimmer, I really appreciate the gym. Although not very big, it offers most of the machines and equipment I need. The free, ample parking adjacent to the centre is a great asset.”

“Centre staff are friendly and approachable. And facilities in the main are good There are a few things which I believe could be looked at / improved: 1) having PT sessions available (appreciating this would be additional cost) 2) ladies toilets really require improvement- some doors don’t close or lock and there’s a constant unpleasant smell 3) more showers available in the ladies changing rooms as need to queue after a swimming session 4) having open courts for request sports so anyone can join for a small cost of an evening one evening per week”

“Ross Halo is a great leasure centre. The pool is always clean. Gym is well equipped. A good choice of classes in the studio. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable.”

“Classes that I joined for, Yoga and Pilates are always full which makes it difficult to plan when you are on a waitlist for so many.”

“the gym has gone downhill substancially, since i last came half of it has been closed off and some of the machines are now nowhere to be seen. the lack of machines is also dissappointing”

Thank you for your feedback. We are still working our way through the repair works following the flood in September of last year, hence why the gym is in a smaller area. In July we will be back fully operational, with more equipment than what we had prior to the floods. Thanks matt

“Excellent toning suite and assistance ...and thankfully air conditioning.!..maybe blinds in the large windows would help with bright sunlight on the evening to keep room cooler ...very happy with Halo experience.”

“Overall I’m happy with the services provided however, I would like to have more flexibility with swimming times (fitness). I work shifts and I struggle to attend the slots provided. Longer opening times overall especially on the weekends would be beneficial too. I ideally until 10pm would be great as I would be able to attend after work and be able to go more frequently. - The equipment is kept clean and the gym area - Staff are friendly and happy to help. - when I have used the swimming pool I have noticed the bathroom was dirty and the floor in changing rooms were dirty however, not sure how as staff are enforcing no shoes policy.”
