About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 22 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

Dirty and very old fashioned. Needs updating asap. The price being charged are way to high when you see what facilities are available, the gym at Pencoed is dire.

Hi Adam, Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback. As a social enterprise, all our income is reinvested into the business. This will include in the coming months a refurbishment of the changing rooms and disabled change at Pencoed Swimming Pool. At this time, we are unable to allocate the funding that would be required to fully refurbish the gym giving the rising energy costs and existing investment plans. As we are more than just a gym, our pricing reflects this. With memberships including the gym, group exercise classes, swimming and the Sauna we believe that our membership offers value for money. We also support our local community by providing a number of discounted memberships to help those who might usually encounter barriers to exercise such as those from certain age groups, those with disabilities and families with low incomes. Facilities and equipment are subpar. Not enough classes or even an array.

Poor choice of group actives. Sometimes no nofication of changes in timetable and a wasted journey if it is not the class that you booked to do. Shortage of instructors. Hereford have more instructors and some of them used to run classes in Leominster. Hereford have launch days of new releases, Leominster do not anymore. The venue in not very clean. Dirty and unswept floors etc. Claases only 45 minutes,when then used to be an hour. So paying more for shorter classes. les Mills do an hour class. Increase in membership but poor service provided. Closing the cafe was a poor move and is missed those accessing the leisure centre and wider public.

Hi Thank you for the feedback, it's appreciated. We do have challenges around instructors and we are always looking at new additions. Those from Hereford who no longer teach at Leominster are no longer available to work for us which of course is a shame. With regards to the class length, this is something we will be looking at immently. Thanks again Halo

Online and on the website it states they are open until 10pm, but on a couple of occasions, I was turned away and this was before 10pm. I subscribed under the impression it was open until 10 because I work all day and can only use the gym in the evenings. After contacting them, I have been given 4 different answers to when they close: 9pm, 9:30pm, 8pm and 6pm. The light does not work in the locker room, and there are never any lockers free. People use them and keep the key, so other people have no where to put their belongings. Overall, I am disappointed and dissatisfied with the service and facilities.

HI Really sorry to hear that you have been dissatisfied with our service. We close the gym at 9.30pm Monday to Thursday and Friday 8.30pm Saturday and Sunday the gym closes at 2pm. The centre closes at 10pm Monday to Thursday 8.45pm Friday and 2.30pm Saturday and Sunday. The lockers at the back of the gym there are keys available at reception or there are lockers at the bottom of the corridor. We hope to do better in the future Kind regards Corina .

Halo Hereford Leisure Pool I often have trouble getting into the gym. once I booked the entrance but the screen was turned off so I couldn't scan anything, I just entered the gym. because I didn't scan anything next time I had to pay ÂŁ8 because I wasn't in the gym which wasn't true!!!! I spoke to the lady at the reception she was very rude, I asked for a member's card 3 times but everyone ignoring me ! I don't understand why I need my phone and app to go to the gym. I can't book at home because the door may be open, but if it's locked I have to wait and book at the door with my slow internet very annoying! very often there is no wiping paper

We are also Sorry that a member of staff did not take the time to assist you and was rude. thank you for bringing this to our attention as we will investigate an easier route into the gym but also remind staff to be more attentive with customers who are having difficulties. I’ve been a member at Leominster for 3 months and was previously a member at Hereford. Since I have been at the Leominster site the showers are poor and just dribble down the wall leave everyone using the disabled shower, The hair driers don’t work, one of the cross trainers has been out of order the whole time and half the treadmills are not level so make a noise when in use. The weights machines show signs of rust. Only 1 tv operational with no myzone interfaces so pointless taking my heart rate monitor. There is very rarely anyone in the office so on more than one occasion I have been in the gym alone which I’m sure is a health and safety risk. To top this off a few weeks after joining they put the price up!

Good morning, Sorry to hear the Gym was not Satisfactory for you. Whilst the Gym isn't the Largest i do recommend visiting the HLC as the gym is bigger. We do offer more than a gym here too, we offer classes and swimming which can meet all fitness needs. Hope this helps? Kind regards

Sadly Highworth pool has gone from being a pleasant, warm experience to far too cold, and this applies to both the water and air temperature. The air heating unit has supposedly been fixed, believe me this is not apparent other than the thick condensation fog has cleared. It’s gone from being well-used to deserted. Swimming lessons cancelled, family swims abandoned. You’re putting off every youngster who has to endure the cold pool, kids are in tears. The (lovely) staff say they’re requested investigations but nothing is happening, meanwhile memberships are being cancelled. Come on Halo, please rectify this situation, you’re ruining a fantastic pool.

HI Kat Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. I will continue to give you update on the heating situation on poolside when you come to site. The AHU is having a full survey with the plan to do more work on the unit to try and increase the air temperature on poolside and we are also trying to increase the pool water temp. Closed without prior notice on numerous occasions I’ve been to use the gym, no communication, no reimbursement of fees, wasted fuel etc. Not happy. The lady Diane is lovely though

Cant appy for just a gym membership, have to have a full price membership including swimming. The swimming pool is really cold but i wouldn't use it anyway. When gym equipment is faulty it takes months for repair. The gym equipment is old and not maintained and the leather padding and straps on some machines and accessories are well worn out in places. The centre closes at 1.45pm on a Saturday and Sunday when most people have their only free time! I only use the centre because its local to me and dont drive.

Thank you for your detailed review and our apologies that your experience of the centre has not been a positive one. We always welcome constructive feedback. The swimming pool has been colder than usual due to a maintenance issue but will be back to its usual temperature soon. I appreciate that some of the gym equipment could do with updating and this is something we are looking into. The opening times have stayed reduced at weekend's since covid, on the whole, the gym is very quiet at the weekend's so it made sense for us to stick with these closing times - It's a shame that these times don't work well for your schedule but if you ever did want any help with a programme for upstairs in the gym or anything similar we would be more than happy to help. Not helpful at all. Confusing to cancel membership and constant admin fees I would not recommend. App doesn’t function appropriately. Would be good if you could cancel membership on the app rather than needing to contact them to reroute you to customer service. Absolutely awful

Without the Spa facility it held no appeal. The centre itself very old dated worn out cardio equipment. It just feels old worn and lacking TLC. Shame.

Kept getting charged for not showing up sessions I never booked, They never answered the phone The booking system is ridiculous Never a welcoming atmkstohete so ended up taking out a another memebeership with a different gym becade when I called to cancel they never answered. For a company that is placed in local communities and Aimed at lower income families the pricing is unreasonable when it comes too bookings “missed” Sometimes people can’t turn up to bookings, they are already paying a monthly fee so too out an extra charge is unreasonable
