About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 22 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

Gym needs a little bit more regular maintenance to keep up to standards.

There is very little in Pencoed Halo gym in the way of resistance training, which is unfortunate as what is there. I.E the cable station, takes up a lot of room and could be a much better system. The Smyths machine is old and breaks frequently, the dumbbells do not go up to 40Kg as in Bridgend Halo, and there are no barbells whatsoever. I have stopped using the gym because of these reasons and am considering termination of my membership.

Prices keep on rising and facilities being removed. No more shower gel dispensers for customers use. Also showers in male changing rooms were out of order for at least 3 days. No notification of them being out of order communicated to members either. The place seems to have gone down hill of late. Not sure if this is down to a change of management or just lack of thought to paying members.

Charging over £7 a time just to use a steam room. Jacuzzi not working. Extra £3 for a swim. Prices don't reflect the services available.

I joined the gym to increase my fitness but was upset to find it was closed each time I wanted to access it mostly at the weekends. The staff are helpful and welcoming.

I only use the golf course and to be honest the standard of the fairways and rough are atrocious with mown grass just left there. It used to be much better than this and it puts me off playing there I’m seriously considering cancelling my membership

There are currently no swimming sessions available that I can attend due to new, very restrictive timetable. I want either late morning, early afternoon or late evening sessions but the new schedule hardly has any swim sessions available at these times. I did try to book for this Thursday/Friday at 12.00 quiet time, but both sessions have been fully booked since Sunday night. staff at centre are brilliant centre facilities are good

Gym equipment often out of service or damaged. Pool in poor state, spa has been out of service since before covid but membership price hasn't changed

Hi Jamie, I'm sorry to hear that you are unhappy with our facilities. There is one item in the gym that is partially out of use at the moment (reported), other than that we haven't had any faults for a while since our new servicing contract has been in place We try our best to make sure our facilities are clean and well maintained, so please let us know of any issues that arise when on site as we can hopefully sort them out there and then for you

Poor classes. I attended a LBT class on Tuesday 23 May, and a lady slipped and hurt her ankle. Our class stopped and we could not continue as the instructor had to tend to the lady as a first aider was not present. I used to attend LBT at 5.45pm which was a favoured time by a lot of people. The LBT class was pushed on to allow for Yoga. The Yoga class has since stopped and there isn't a 5.45pm class. We've asked about a step class. The classes are very poor. The toilets smell and are unclean. Not enough instructor run spin classes either. I'd love to do a Saturday step class or an aerobics class.

The building and equipment is a poor state. The studio in which most of classes are held is missing, you can pear into the fabric of the building and pray that nothing with dislodge and fall on you. Dirty floors and toilets, customers service is just close to none. Swimming pool is a disgrace, chipped tiles, dirty cubicles and run down, dirty unusable toilets. The reservation system is unreliable often resulting in double booking or no booking- always a gamble. The whole package it’s a joke.

Lady who dealt with me was not considerate of my situation. Really didnt want to go back to use the facilities but meant my son would miss out. Having been a member of several leisure facilities over time, the company and its policies rate very low.

Old rusty equipment - update required Showers don’t work either broke or leaking Only disabled working barely - I’m not disabled so is not fair on people who are Changing rooms - the river wye is cleaner even after the water companies have dumped sewage into it Needs a deep clean regularly as it’s a state As for having to pay more to use a better facility in Hereford is making me doubt the monthly cost as experience is not enjoyable I do like the swimming pool in Leominster as it’s 25m but could be open longer Happy to take pics of changing rooms next time I go if required but go see for yourself it’s never clean

Morning Steve, Please see our original feedback and response to your review. For our sports centre in Ross which was Halo centre of the year in 2017/18 the decline and general degradation of the centre these days is sad to see. The gym is tiny, it needs to be extended the reception and desk is like three times the size of it. Equipment is dated.

Rundown and has no money spent on it. Shoulder press out of action for approx 5 months, because Halo wouldn’t pay for a new handle. Took nearly 6 months to change a light fitting. Lots of equipment covered in rust, yet increased membership fee for second year in a row- where is that money going?! Staff are great.

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate the time you have taken to reply and give your feedback. We apologise for the length of time taken to repair the equipment. Glad to see the light and shoulder press are back in action but it should have been quicker. With the energy prices increasing greatly we have had no option but to increase our prices. We do have a life span on equipment and we are currently looking at these and if we are in a financial position to replace them with new equipment then we will inform our customers.
