About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Mel runs great Pilates classes. She is very welcoming and friendly and is mindful of people with injuries or ongoing issues and adapts the activities for those individuals. She is a real asset to your team!”

“The Pilates classes at Ynysawdre are first class. Mel is an outstanding instructor and nothing is too much trouble, she is very friendly and helpful. Mel is the best and I really enjoy going to her sessions. Thank you 😊👍”

“I feel fortunate to have Highworth Rec within a short drive of the village I live in. They offer a good range of classes, have an excellent gym and a wonderful pool. It has the added bonus of a friendly environment at very competitive monthly fees.”

“The lifeguard serving and spectating the customers was not very friendly, and actually his mannerisms made both myself and another adult as well as two children uncomfortable when trying to pay. The children also thought he was rude to them also when they were in the pool. In the pool, there were also a large group of teenage boys being unsafe in the water which the ligeguard had to intervene and get get out of the water, they were swearing and causing a scene and also being unsafe in the water, however it took the lifeguard several attempts and nearly a whole swimming session to get them out of the pool, i personally believe intervention should have happened way sooner as they posed a risk to others in the pool.. he should't have waited as long as he did or argued back with them, another member of staff or the police should have been called. In this time, my children couldnt enjoy themselves in the water and had to come out and tell the adults numerous of times due to 1. feeling worried and unsafe and 2. the lifeguard not helping them but being rude to them also. There were also extremely cold showers so were unable to use them to shower afterwards. It is a shame as the swimming pool itself is lovely and we have enjoyed previously (hence the 2 stars). I couldn't possible give more at this time.”

“Great to have the halo centre in highworth. Good pool,gym and classes. Would like more opportunities to do fitness swimming and the changing facilities in the pool and general are all in real need of an update.”

“I find the centre clean on the most part with very friendly helpful staff. I do find however that people are leaving their belongings in the changing room cubicals, limiting the amount of changing rooms available, if at all, instead of using the lockers provided to place belongings while they are swimming, this is sadley unacseptable behavior. I would be glad if notices were posted to all usesers of the swimming changing area to ensure the use of all lockers provided for the storage of clothing etc.”

“Very inclusive. Friendly staff. Love the welcoming atmosphere that has been created. Equipment in working order but could do with some updating. Maybe introduction of some more classes such as trialling Body Attack, yoga?”

The car park is owned by Highworth Town council not the centre and is used by residence and users of the football club and tennis club as well as our customers, so it is very busy. “I frequently go to the gym because it is around 4 minutes drive from my house. I like the fact that it is compact and the equipment that is there suits my needs. I also attend a circuits class on a Monday evening. The instructor, Darren is excellent. I only wish there were more exercise classes available at Pencoed which is my only complaint. I also occasionally do the aquafit class which again is very enjoyable. All the staff are courteous and keen to help.”
