About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Bridgend life centre Where do I start, the pool is always cold and could be a lot warmer. The tiles on the little island in the pool are absolutely green and really need a good clean. The changing rooms and toilets leave a lot to be desired, I don't think they are cleaned from one month to the next. I use the family changing room which really needs a good clean, the nappy bin is disgusting and needs a dam good bleaching along with all the walls. Walking through the changing room the floor is stinking and always loads of hair, so are the showers. The toilets are an absolute disgrace, the trough that runs through the toilets have got god knows what in them along with stagnant water, and tiny little bugs crawling around in there. The tiles are rotten in the toilet cubicles which could do with a really good scrubbing. I always feel dirty after visiting here. I take family members here and have done for months and I don't think it have ever had a clean in all the months we have been here. SHAME ON YOU HALO. YOU CHARGE ENOUGH FOR THE SERVICES, HYGEINE SHOULD BE YOUR PRIORITY”

“I'm pleased to see that there have been no negative changes to the running of the centre since being taken over by Halo. Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre provides a vital service for the health and well-being of the local community, particularly for older age-groups. Importantly it reduces the strain on the NHS and GP services. The Leisure Centre must continue to be accessible and affordable for all members of the community.”

“Overall I think Merthyr Leisure Center is good. I think the mens toilets (attached to the changing room) needs upgrading also there’s never any hand soap in the dispensers. Other than that I think the Center should be open later. It used to open until 10pm.”

“I enjoyed but found that maybe some of the equipment was used for sitting on by some other attendees.Making them unavailable.people also using nearby windowsills and areas to store their stuff and invading your space.I could not see any staff around the place.”

“The range of classes is limited and repeted all the time. No new modern classes. When instructor is off there is no replacement instructor ..the class just get cancelled. Big issue with cleanliness as well.”

“All staff very good. I only use the pool and there has been problems with the water temperature on a few occasions lately. Showers and changing rooms poor, showers need to be jet washed as they are not cleaned often enough or good enough, this is my only complaint”

“I use the centre @3 times a week, usually in the pool. The last few weeks the water has been exceptionally cold. Showers are often cold and the individual cubicles often have clumps of hair on the floor. This is not acceptable. Last week there was a discarded sticking plaster floating about which staff knew about, but it was not removed!”
