About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Good gym, good kit and set up. Just a bit awkward with changing rooms and the school situation. The showers are always red hot and you dont have any temprature controls which is not what you want in summer after a gym session.”

“It is very good but could do with a second Aqua session on a Thursday, as they do on a Monday, Thursdays session is extremely difficult to get on.”

“Changing rooms are dirty and tired, regularly smelling of sewage. They desparately need upgrading. The facilities for disabled people are poor with changing rooms a long way away from the disabled shower and access to the pool. Grab handles need to be added to the showers closest to the pool to help people with reduced mobility and also signs allocating the larger changing cubicles as a priority to people with reduced mobility would easily address and help these patrons. Furthermore, there need to be more 'Quiet Swim' sessions for people with disabilities/reduced mobility who find public/social/laned swims inappropriate. These need to be in the evening and at weekends as well as daytime sessions to allow for work commitments (Many people with disabilities and reduced mobility do still work!).”

“Good sized swimming pool with lessons available for adults and children helpful and friendly manager and staff. Very reasonable entrance fees and membership fees. Good hot showers and individual changing cubicles. Free parking.”

“I go to the Bromyard halo centre. Staff are friendly and helpful. Gym has a good variety of equipment & weights, and appears suitable for the number who use it. The classes are great - however, there are too few and the weights/bikes used in the classes definitely need to be invested in - new bikes & more weights (kettlebells, plates). I would also love to see an extension of the opening hours in the weekday mornings… even just from 6/6.30am for those who work, would be amazing.”

“The kind and caring staff make Bromyard Halo amazing. Overall, the equipment and choice of classes is very good. But the condition and age of the Spin bikes is very poor. I would be lost without this centre.”

“Pontypool Active Living Centre Lane swim Thursdays evenings. All good except that the toilets are always dirty, the toilet seats are broken (or missing). There isn’t always toilet roll.”

“Another Saturday in the gym with no staff! Disabled toilets filthy, sink covered stains (dread to think what they are) the toilets were clearly not cleaned/checked since who knows when. Members in gym needing help/support and having to ask other members. What would happen if someone was taken unwell? Are these cost cutting measures because it definitely NOT people before profit! Which is what HALO’ philosophy is! (Apparently)”
