About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“When it's not busy, this is a nice gym. It's small, but so long as there aren't too many people that's not a problem. I find after school/evenings to be far too busy, when lots of young people are hogging the machines. The check-in process is also ridiculous. The using the app to generate a code never works for me, so I always have to queue at reception to get in, which is annyoing when you only get 1 hour of parking and waste precious minutes queuing! I once walked straight in because I know that early in the morning the gym is unlocked, and was told we have to check in, but I've seen other people just walk straight in - so whcih is it? Stupid system with poor tech which wastes time! Showers are basic and could do with updating tbh, when it's busy there isn't enough bench space for people to get changed adn it's v crowded”

“Great staff, very helpful, its very clean, steam room and sauna are excellent.i recommend it to friends alot.The app is easy to use.If i did have any criticism it would only be that its not open on Saturday or Sunday afternoon”

“A good selection of classes, good instructors although some instructors are qualified in other areas which are not being utilised. One of the 2 toilets in the ladies changing room has been out of order for several weeks, therefore the toilet specifically for people with a disability is being used by all customers. Maintenance issues do not appear to dealt with in a timely manner. The ladies changing room frequently smells unpleasant. A strong odour of faeces/drains”

“Pontypool Leisure Centre is improving. On the whole I'm happy with the running especially with Nathan and Mary's classes. It's a pity that you cannot use the tap entry card when the staff are using the computer as this is causing the queues. The staff on the front desk are friendly and helpful. Perhaps as a safety issue staff should politely remind parents that children shouldn't run around in the cafe.”

“The gym spaces are always really clean and I feel availability of equipment is good. Exercise classes are really good and the instructors are really knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and approachable. The changing rooms for the pool are gross. They always have a peculiar smell, they look and feel dirty. The pool always has weird residue at the bottom in the deep end, it almost looks like sand? Also “lane swim” is always crammed as half of the pool is being used for something else, such as lifeguard training or swimming lessons. Although these things are priorities, perhaps reducing availability a bit more in the lanes would be helpful as the 2 lanes are always crammed and the pool is just chaos. The reception staff are always polite and friendly.”

“Classes are mostly good but not enough of the popular classes that I can never get a, space in. Disappointing that the spa facilities don't work, I used to use them frequently. Group fitness room is boiling and no air conditioning, lack of fans. An instructor occasionally leaves her own for us to use which is poor. Timetable change is required at cwmbran centre especially. I still enjoy what I attend just needs improvements.”

“The centre is spotlessly clean, the staff are friendly and efficient The equipment is modern and the admin makes full use of this digital age with face recognition etc it is a pity that there is not a swimming pool on site but membership gives access to those in Hereford and Ross-on-Wye”

“It's such an asset to Leominster to have the pool there. Generally, it's a great place to go - the staff are helpful and there's a decent range of activities. My husband and I were disappointed that the timetable changed meaning that the body balance class was no longer available in the summer (evenings). We love coming swimming as a family and the kids attend rookie lifeguards - my concerns with the pool are that most of the lockers don't work - locks never replaced on them. These have been this way for many months and should be fixed urgently. Additionally, many of the seats in the spectator area are damaged or have been removed and never replaced. Additionally, unless you're happy with a vending machine, there are no drinks facilities. There used to be a coffee machine which was always broken but never got replaced and there are few seats out in reception with one table often occupied by a staff member using a laptop (for work of course but still reduces where people can sit). Some investment is needed here I feel - given that the cost of membership has increased year on year, it's disappointing to see that this hasn't been re-invested back into the facility. Even a coffee machine for parents being dragged to an 8am swim lesson would be appreciated! 😆. Would also like to see extended opening times on Saturday and Sunday as working full time, often this is the only time people can attend. No problems with the staff as I said, they are friendly and helpful.”
