About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“The general condition of the building and exercise rooms is poor. There is an even bigger issue with cleaning which is virtually non existent since the cleaner retired and has not been replaced. Floors are dirty and bins not emptied. On many occasions the dual sex changing rooms are smelly and dirty and some changing rooms showers and toilets have no locks on the doors. Also there are issues with showers either not working properly or broken. The classes are good which is why I keep going but feel members are being ripped off with how much we have to pay.”

“The water based classes are fabulous, I have had two instructors for rhe Aqua classes monday night Jane which is absolutely brilliant, really motivates you os very professional . Also the Wednesday night class is am not sure of her name bug again absolutely fabulous as well. Working in a Lesiure Cente myself for another authority I am impressed by the the varied classes you hold as well as how many its great!! And the price of the membership is reasonable for what you get as well. The only downside is thr changing rooms forbthe pool are always dirty , the floors are full.of water and like mud also a little bit of a smell in the changing rooms too. I think they could be cleaned out more often . I understand its very busy with the 6 weeks break for the kids too. Otherwise I am really happy with everything and glad I chose to take my membership out with Halo Leisure at Merthyr”

“Male toilets smell in the village.The walls in some of the cubicles need a good clean to get rid of some people's filthy habits. People are still blatantly ignoring signage to not wear outdoor shoes in the changing areas. This makes more work for your staff,as this brings in lots of dirt from outside. On the plus side all your staff are always very helpful with advice and encourage visitors to enjoy their time at the pool.”

“The staff at Bromyard Centre are always welcoming, cheerful, helpful and knowledgeable. The centre is clean and comfortable to exercise in and has a good range of classes and a fairly well equipped gym. The Bodybalance class is particularly good with Marcus the instructor (and centre manager) clearly enjoying the sessions and enthusing participants to enjoy it too. The only thing Bromyard lacks is a pool, which would be the icing on the cake for the town. Tenbury pool, recently being taken charge of by Halo and the lovely Bromyard Halo team is an asset to the centre, as it gives an extra little bonus if you have an all-centres membership.”

“Staff great but not enough to cover classes now - i have lost 3 classes a week as there is no cover. Everyone is very unhappy and feels they should now have a lower membership fee to the other halo centers who seem to have more cover for classes and AL. Ledbury used to be great when it had sufficient cover. I have gathered that Halo management will not pay staff to travel to Ledbury to improve service back to its previous high standard”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of Halo and have loved using the facilities at the Ledbury centre. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Equipment is maintained well. One small complaint is the sheer number of under 18s and even under 16s who use the gym after school. They are exceptionally well behaved but numbers are not policed. Some people in the gym are too young to be using the facilities without potentially injuring themselves. Apart from that small issue the gym is fantastic and I would (and have!) recommend it.”

“The swimming times in the morning are restrictive. I would to go swimming at 7.30 but cannot but of the pool shutting for 15 mins before next session. It’s disappointing tthat during in evening, I cannot take my granddaughter swimming the children’s pool is not open and I am male and I take my granddaughter swimming but there is only one family changing where I change her. Please add more”
