About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Difficulty in booking popular classes is a continuing problem also there often seems to be staff shortages as classes are frequently not covered when staff are absent”

“I do Zumba there every week and there is no air conditioning. The dance room is stifling hot even with an outside door open. When the teacher tried opening the door onto the main corridor staff came and closed it. This is a health and safety issue (Health and Safety at Work Act and associated regs) You would be liable if anyone passes out with the heat.”

“The pool and the gym are both very good but it has been frustrating that the water dispenser in the gym has been out of action for a whole month now. Also strange that an item of equipment in the gym has mysteriously disappeared that I used to use every time I went.”

“Cleanliness seems to be the biggest issue. The studios 1 & 2 need a good deep cleaning, there is dust collecting in the corners and right across the middle of the room where the partition was.”

“The aquaerobics and zumba classes I attend with Claire are excellent and fun. It is a shame she is leaving and at present nobody replacing her classes. These classes are a life line to maintain and improving wellbeing and mental health.”

“Staff were incredible but the members often ruined alot of the swimming by swimming side by side and talking to each other so noone could pass and this was often in every lane”

“Friendly and helpful staff. Good facilities. Ice used the pool, gym and regularly play badminton in the sports hall Good parking with the bonus that it's so easy to get to compared to anything near the city centre. A fabulous facility for our connubity”

“I love attending gym classes at Halo and the staff are friendly. However to improve you need more 8 and 10kg kettlebells in studio 3 and also studio 1/2 as the majority of people attending will use these and we have a selection of weights. It is often a problem.”

“Another weekend day at MTLC. No toilet paper in the disabled toilet. They’ve taken away the paper towels and now can’t be bothered to check if there is loo roll! It’s becoming a joke now! Is this Loo Roll a cut back or an oversight? After all it’s profit before people at Halo! As their People before profit is not what members are experiencing!”

“The classes that I like to attend are very good. Andrea is the instructor and I'd say she is first class. However, where my rating is lowered is because if Andrea is off sick or on holiday a replacement is not put on. There should be a store of people to call on if needed. I think there could be another full time instructor and more classes. More body pump and I'd even like step brought back.”

“Staff are always willing to help and advise on use equipment and during classes. Gym is not always supervised with staff which I don't think is acceptable - this is mainly due to being understaffed. Easy circuit classes leave room for more exciting and varied equipment to be supplied. Aqua aerobics is well attended, instructors offer sufficient advise for excercise and are very helpful and always pleasant. Excercise halls are not always clean, floors are marked and extremely dusty.”

“Not as friendly / welcoming as it used to be. Difficult at times to find anyone at reception. Rather impersonal / lack of interest approach from some employees. One lifeguard dealt with a very minor situation in a very heavy handed manor - rude bordering agressive. Duty manager and Manager unaware of concessions for senoir membership and yet very clearly advertised on Halo website. Lack of lighting in ladies shower. At least one bulb needed replacing for more than two weeks. Health & safety issue? The pool is generally very clean but noticeably colder than it used to be.”
