About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I use the gym regularly. I tis good to see the regulars so making it a social thing too. Um... there are parts of the centre that could be cleaner - not the gym itself but some of the peripheries!!”

“Pontypool Leisure used to have a day time cycle class (10am Weds) this was removed from the schedule. Its very disappointing that there are no daytime cycle classes. I have raised this with the staff but there seems to be no desire to take on feed back and i have just been told that's the way it is. Whilst i accept that you cant do classes for each individual ask but the fact this isn't taken forward for consideration and is shut off by whoever does your emails is disappointing customer service”

“Friendly and good selection of classes. Gym is spacious. Swimming pool is a bit tired and grubby on the tiles and I am not a fan of the communal changing area.”

“This is difficult to score as the staff are lovely and we are lucky to have the facility but there are a few things that are not good that drag the score down. The Hydro pool in the evening is freezing. Many of the users have health issues and are not maintaining high activity so get very cold. The other is the cleanliness of toilets and changing rooms which is dreadful.”

“I am very happy with Halo. Everything you could need in a leisure centre although I personally have never used the pool. Staff are pleasant, kind and helpful. Only reason for leaving is I am away for several months.”

“Over the last few years the location has not been maintained correctly. Equipment worn out and not serviced in the gym. The Sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi are rarely all working the latter not working siince June 2025. The health suite shower is only running cold since Dec 2024. The health suite is rarely cleaned and smells due to the dirty surfaces and drains. The gym flooring is damaged and uneven which requires repairs. There is little or no control over people using the facility without paying. It appears all that has been done over the last 6 months are new stickers and signage promoting Halo. Plus the road was resurface at the entrance in time for the Tour of Britain. How convienient.”

“It’s always dirty in the gym, the floor mats have literally never been cleaned. You can’t use the changing rooms to change for the gym because there’s screaming kids running everywhere all the time, the people that run it are also really young and there’s never anyone at the front desk. I only went there because there’s very limited gyms in tenbury. It’s so expensive for the size of it”

“As I was a gp referral I was lucky enough to get PT Helen look after me. Helen helped me get strong and have confidence in the gym. The only reason I have left is the travel time from home to the gym is longer than the time I spend in the gym. I now have lots of equipment at home so do exercise at home.”

“The sessions I was able to access were enjoyable and well organized. However a number of activities for my age group I was unable to access, either due to waiting lists or being GP referrals, I.e aqua fit. Ty chi and active for life circuits (11am sessions). I tried going back to the gym however most days all machines taken, and very busy.”

“Started and loved it, regular yoga classes and ok gym facilities. Could do with a hip thrust machine (current machine doesnt go low enough to do this so i use the bar but thats harder to do heavier weights) and more weights which go over 35 for my partner to use. We arent big gym types.. but the gym doesnt do what we need for our routine.. it feels more like a hotel gym with a big price tag”
