About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Very friendly staff at the local pool with a good changing room, cubicles, showers and lockers and plenty of fitness swim sessions, swim classes and a gym. If I have any criticism it is that the showers can be too hot but otherwise a great local facility that is definitely worth a visit and your support.”

“Staff are very friendly! Changing room and showers still aren’t great although much better than a few years ago. Would like to do Aqua fit twice a week in the evening but it only happens one evening a week, it is well supported so I’m sure for those of us who work another session would be welcomed!”

“The swim club on a Monday and Friday leave litter in the cubicles...sort it out”

“I have been coming to pencoed swimming pool for many years. It has greatly improved recently with the new changing rooms. The only thing I have an issue with is at the shallow end if you look under the water the edges seem a little grubby. Overall I am pleased with Halo”

“Since the changing rooms for the pool have been updated it is a better experience when coming swimming and they are a pleasure to use.”

“I wanted to offer feedback for 2 aspects. My son Ioan has been having swimming lessons at Pontypool for quite a while but recently he has been working with Megan teaching him. She clearly understands him well and is very dedicated to her work as he has all of a sudden come along in leaps and bounds. She is a great teacher and clearly deserves recognition for her hard work. Secondly, I would like to thank the staff at Pontypool. Ioan moved up a class in swimming and due to an issue with the app, my wife was unable to book his new lessons online so this was booked in person at pontypool. When we arrived on Wednesday 28th may, there was an issue and we were initially turned away. Staff were very polite and empathetic but it was still frustrating as you can imagine. I attended the reception area and the member of staff there and the manager Emily took immediate action to address the problem and more than exceeded my expectations in terms of the service they offered and their professionalism in dealing with the issue. I was unbelievably grateful for their help and very satisfied as a customer”

“I love the community and classes but many of us feel the cleanliness is extremely poor. The toilets are really dirty, marked, and often no loo paper. They are generally run down. The floor in the studio is also very dirty and things left on it are often there for a long period of time. Staff are often stood at reception doing nothing, could this be part of their’s or someone else’s duties? Or employ a cleaner please.”

“Andrea is an amazing. Offers a huge range of classes, but when she is away there are often insufficient people to maintain her classes. We miss Val's pilates. Reception can be erratic but staff are generally friendly. The centre has a good atmosphere”

“Nice and clean gym, some decent machines but they have crammed them in with little to no space between each machine and only enough space for one person doing floor exercises or stretching at a time. A couple of cycling machines but they are so old style and not for serious exercise, no peloton or spinning type machines.”

To make this possible, we need to relocate one of our existing machines to another centre. Once that’s done, we’ll be able to open up additional floor space.
