About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“My halo centre in Merthyr tydfil is very clean, with friendly and helpful staff overall. Gym instructors Mark, Liam and Rhys are highly motivating in classes and bring positive energy to the sessions. I feel customers would benefit from some direct advice on techniques in the classes, particularly on the safe use of weights. The reception area could benefit from some more 'charisma' , but no one is at all rude.”

“Facilities at Meon Vale Stratford are great, the staff are always there to help and are always polite. The Manager ( Slav ) is great and always has time for you.”

“I’m quite happy with Bromyard’s Halo. It’s clean and tidy with a friendly group of people running the place. I would like to see a card entry turnstile so that all users are in fact paying members.”

“Centre is warm, clean, friendly and well organised. I only do Aquafit classes which are always excellent. Wendy Almond is a brilliant teacher who inspires you to work hard. Now for the negatives. The classes are too full and overbooked. People are setting their alarms for 7 a.m. To ensure a slot. There needs to be additional classes if you are introducing new members. The toilets need cleaning properly wiping the top of the loo seat is not enough. The loo rolls need refilling more often. I would not recommend a friend as my classes are already oversubscribed.”

“The center is old and tired, has poor choice of equipment in comparison to other gyms in the area, poor sound system. Would be great to see a refurb of the gym, or even just a lick of paint to make this a better option for the local community. The opening times arent great either. I am a member out of convenience as this is the most local gym to me but considering leaving for puregym, mostly because of opening times but also the atmosphere and cost.”

“I was there due to a referral through my MS nurses. The lady conducting the interview / referral was excellent! Made me feel a bit better about my condition and the following inductions.”

“Great sessions excellent tutors and helpful friendly staff throughout the centre I have not met a member of staff who has not been welcoming friendly and very helpful from those in the gym and pool areas to those who run classes and especially those on front of house who have to work in quite challenging situations sometimes, always helpful and welcoming”

“Squash courts are very rarely cleaned. Changing rooms are cold. Cafe/catering facilities have a poor range and are not always opened at key times, eg Sunday morning closed when there are events on and people would like to grab breakfast or a coffee. Gym is decent, equipment is ok but more than acceptable. Sauna/steam room removed several years ago and this is a real shame given the health benefits, particularly saunas. I appriciate it is expensive but Ebbw vale have managed to keep theirs, possibly some support from local council could help with this.”

“hi, I have been at the Brockworth club for the last 4 months, the gym suits my needs but there is an issue with cleaning that is making me consider moving to another club. The gym/equipment is very dirty but the big issue is the changing rooms. The toilets smell awful and the dirt on the floors and walls is just getting worse where it has not been cleaned. There has been the same rubbish on the floor/benches for over a week. 2 of the changing rooms have blood on the walls that has been there for 2 weeks! I don't want to leave but unless something changes I will have to move on”

“Good selection of classes on offer. Friendly staff. Could do with more area for weaights and a few more weight machines. At busy times you can be left struggling to get a routine in. Generally, very good centre.”

“I joined halo for the aqua swimming but sadly there is only one session a week , so me and many others think we don’t get value for money . The pool is clean and the showers kept well .”
