About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I have been a member for several years now and enjoy the classes in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with good instructors. I mostly attend Helen Lewis and Julie Lawrence classes which are adapted to meet different needs. The centre is let down by general overall poor cleanliness particularly ladies toilets upstairs and flooring downstairs hall when used outside of school term. Thank you to Kieran for making big effort on flooring on Hall. He is always helpful and greeted with a smile on entry. Changing rooms lockers out of order, nos on keys missing and locks on cubicles missing. Only one hairdryer at moment. I cannot comment on gym as do not use. Some of the mats are old and need replacing.”

“There are a good choice of classes to choose from, but I personally have had difficulty in booking classes on my iPad it often wants me to pay even though I am a member paying by direct debit so I hsve to then try to ring in and book by phone”

“The team are always happy to help and great you with a smile. They all seem to 'muck in' and cover for each other. Andrea is a role model for this flexibility and commitment. Very basic facility but always kept clean.”

“I love the staff, the gym and the pool. The staff and fitness team are lovely. The gym is unpretentious and has all the equipment you might need, and it has a very friendly atmosphere. PS The IT systems are problematic for everyone and it creates a stressful feelong every time I arrive; it would be very nice if the IT 'just worked'. Halo should do whatever it takes to get this sorted out as the increased satisfaction of users and staff will be great for business. I know, because I work in IT.”

“I have received excellent support from the HALO Bridgend NERS Team over the last 16 weeks of my programme. From the kick off meeting with Aiqin, to the gym support from Tom, Darren, and later Brandon, and the Hydro Fit support from Vicky and Dan, to the closing meeting with Stuart, these have all been excellent in setting goals, helping me learn new equipment and techniques, giving me encouragement, offering support, measuring progress to my goals, and being friends. I have achieved a 5% reduction in my weight, 2" off my waist and chest, 1" off my neck, 10% improvement in both resting heartrate and blood pressure. I have also increased my Bike HIIT Sweat Score from 426 to 816 in just 16 weeks!!! But the best measure is that, while on holiday for 14 nights, I visited the hotel gym every other day, something I've never done before. This proves that the NERS team have enabled me to set a new habit that I intend to maintain. The 16 weeks NERS programme is excellent, and the team that deliver it are excellent too. I'm sure I'll see you guys/gals in the gym, studio, or pool over the coming weeks, months, and years, but if we ever see each other in a bar make sure you say hi and let me buy you a drink!! Thank you to you all.”

“The gym has everything you need for a good training session but the Health suite steam room and Jacuzzi is always broke it’s been broken for the last 3-4 weeks and when you ask why it’s still down they always say I don’t know”

“Generally satisfied with my Halo pool, however I would love it if they could have longer opening hours at weekends. For those of us at work during the day a few evening sessions a week isn’t enough to maintain fitness. How about opening for lane swimming at weekends?”

“The staff are great. The facilities, although some bits have been refurbished in the last couple of years, are still a bit outdated. The yacuzzi hasn’t worked since before covid I do feel slightly aggrieved that I’m paying for the use of a health suite when in fact it’s just a steam room. Maybe you could look to utilise this waste of space and turn it into another useful item? Maybe a sauna or ice room? Or even a nice seating area? It’s just an eyesore atm.”

“Good basic equipment, always clean. It would be good to have lockers in changing rooms for people going straight to work or from work. I think the gym could benefit from the staff keeping an eye on the gym floor, I’ve seen so many young teenagers ‘working out’ trying to lift heavier than their capability & their just going to end up injuring themselves.”
