About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“The new gym equipment is very good. I am not a fan of the loud music, it would be better if there was no music or different music. The showers are very poor. Water only flows for a matter of seconds before cutting out!”

“More equipment, more fun. Facilities are ok, although certain areas could do with a spruce up. Slavi and his team are superb, lots of help and guidance from all the personal trainers.”

“It’s a nice centre. Good equipment and nice staff. Good changing facilities. The centre seems to regularly get updated. Could do with some heavier dumbbells and kettlebells”

“I have enjoyed using Ledbury Swimming Pool centre but it is looking increasingly shabby. I predominantly use the gym which has had numerous ceiling tiles missing for ages and buckets sat about catching drips from the leaking roof. The cable machine has been out of order for months. A lot of the grips on the dumbbells and resistance machines are battered. A big issue for me is the opening times which especially on the weekend are very limited. The booking system also makes it very awkward to use the facilities flexibly. I often thought it would be good to do a resistance workout in the gym then do some cardio in the pool but this never seems to be possible due to the schedule of when the pool is available and having to fit into restrictive session times. Similarly with the sauna, having the system where you have to book and then collect a band from reception puts in just enough barriers that you find you can’t be bothered.”

Rest assured, we’re actively working on maintaining our equipment and improving the overall appearance of the centre. We have received the go-ahead to replace the lat pull-down and chest press with brand-new replacements instead of replacing parts which were ordered last week. The ceiling tiles and the leaks are being investigated as well as a few other issues. We hope to have them rectified as soon as possible. Your concerns about opening hours and the booking system are valuable, and we will certainly take them into consideration as we look for ways to enhance the experience for our members. “The gym facilities and staff are all fantastic, especially Morgâne, who is always welcoming, friendly and supportive. I would like a few more classes, for example Pilates, yoga and general exercise. The changing room and toilets could really do with an update. The showers are not always working and the hand driers have not worked since before Xmas.”

“I have attended the pool since I was a toddler, learning how to swim. I was very disappointed when I froze my membership when going to university to have it reactivated in the small print of weekly emails. Then to be told that cancelling my membership without notice was a gesture of goodwill after I was told I would be contacted back was extremely disappointing.”

“I find the toning suite a fantastic facility which is invaluable in keeping my physical health at a reasonable level with my chronic condition. This facility was recommended by my physiotherapist. I feel it is a step backwards to reduce the opening hours of the toning suite. It is very busy between 7 and 9.00am, and cannot be anything to do with the staffing as it is unstaffed in the afternoons anyway. Please reconsider. This facility is used by elderly, disabled and those with other challenges and feels like discrimination. Please reconsider unless there is a reason I am not aware of.”
