About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

Overall I'm pleased with my local Halo Leisure centre in Leominster It meets my requirements with what I am hoping to achieve for my fitness & health I still have some niggles & disappointments from when I joined a year ago and these have not improved Most staff are friendly and approachable but there are a few individuals who are not like this coming across as disinterested in their customers Cleanliness could be improved particularly in the swimming pool area which I use every week

Disappointed to find that there is no longer a customer available Wi-Fi connection at Tenbury. There was previously under Freedom. I will miss this as I am pay as you go on my phone and listen to podcasts during exercise.

Would be 5 but frustrating when small group training is on and you can’t access the weights etc in the area until they are done. Should raise the age of kids that join as 99% of them hog the equipment in group and just chat. Annoying for customer that want to train.

Staff are fantastic only thing that could be improved is the building itself as it’s dated, the roof sometimes leaks and the heating doesn’t always work in the main hall, plus there is no air conditioning for classes.

Friendly staff and great training staff too. Toning suite is always available which after my stroke is perfect for my health currently.

I’m enjoying the pram fit and baby yoga but the price of the membership keeps increasing so not sure if I will continue with it much longer when there are gyms that are cheaper with a larger variety of equipment and classes

The Highworth Rec has really great staff who are always helpful. The downside us always having to make card payments for pay and play activities, and the 'you owe us money' emails sent out when the computer system is down. We are unable to pay cash on these occasions. Life was a lot easier when we could pay cash!

The centre is always clean and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. The aquarobics classes I attend are very enjoyable and well run. Our instructor ‘Cas’ is excellent and her class is great.

I have been using Tenbury pool for over 20 years and now feel I have been adversely affected by the changes from Halo. Firstly, despite being given a new membership card, I am unable to access my account. The bar code on the card is not recognised and although a request to reset my password returns a success message, the link does not arrive. With Freedom, I had a swim and aqua membership. This appears to be no longer available. I neither need gym membership or would ever use the gym. I also note there is no concession for the aqua classes. These issues are affecting my previous positive relationship with the pool and I will be seriously considering not renewing my membership.

Positive - staff friendly and helpful. Neutral - Halo put in new machines when they took over a few months ago but they aren’t really any better than what was taken out. Negative - just 4 months after taking over they aren’t putting fees up by around 25%. Very poor and misleading.

We purposely selected those machines to ensure there’s something for everyone. That being said, we will definitely review your feedback and consider potential changes or swaps for the future. Since taking over, Halo has not only revamped the entire gym with brand-new equipment and more machine stations than ever before, but we’ve also been committed to honoring the membership prices with you and St. Modwen for nearly half a year. Unfortunately, after reviewing the pricing structure, we've concluded that we can no longer sustain the leisure center at those rates, as they were significantly below what is required. In order to honor our legacy members, we’ve transferred anyone with a membership below £25.95 to that rate, as it represents our new discounted price. The Halo staff are great. However I find the company ‘Halo’ rigid and not flexible to changing demands such as meeting the needs of those who use the swimming pool. Often 2 swim lanes are needed for ‘continuous’ swimming to balance out speed and ability but Halo “won’t “ do this. In Ledbury there is for sure the practice space to do so. It is a persistent problem with an inflexible culture and management style.

The centre is good and the Staff are very friendly and helpful. One gripe that I do have is with the steam room which was once reliable and always open now it seems to be permanently closed as it would appear that when it now breaks down (as it has been for around the last six months) no one seems to be bothered about fixing it. Which is grossly unfair to your customers (I’m one) who now can’t use it as it seems permanently out of use.

There have been multiple breakdowns and multiple repairs in that time frame. We are currently in the process of purchasing a new unit, which should ultimately resolve the technical issues we have been having, giving us a reliable steam room moving forward. Thanks again

I am not the only one to be disappointed at how badly Halo manage cover for staff on hols/sickness. I'm aware that Alison (Pencoed Halo) has been on holidays for the last month. There has been no cover for her Thursday morning Aqua Arobics for the last 4 weeks, and there is rarely cover if she's had a day sick throughout the year. I was contacted just once to say that the class was cancelled and the other 3 I have turned up, along with others, to find it cancelled without notice. The exact same thing happened last year when she took a month off for holidays. I find it difficult to believe/understand how an organisation of this size can agree to letting staff have holidays without considering/organising sufficient cover. I myself pay monthly and expect, within reason, for classes to available as advertised. On the plus side, staff are friendly and capable and now the changing rooms have been refitted, it's a nice clean place to exercise and shower.
