About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Not enough classes and ridiculous situation where you need to set your alarm clock for 7 o'clock to book for a class 2 weeks away! Classes great when you can get in to them!”

“The gym is fine. The changing rooms aren't great. No privacy at all in the showers, no doors, cubicles or curtains. I did ask the Manager and he did say he would sort something out but he never did. Another helpful staff member did find a display board, but not ideal. They are often not clean, even first thing in the morning.”

“The amount of money being spent on Cwmbran instead of Pontypool is disgusting. There's still a damaged floor in the Pontypool gym putting safety at risk and yet somehow Cwmbran gets ANOTHER sum of money despite it being done a few years ago. Pontypool is the leisure centre linked to PONTYPOOL UNITED. Let that sink in. Pontypool Halo need to do something before they get my membership back. What a sad fall.”

“Good equipment and variety of group sessions available. Staff very friendly, courteous and helpful. Only criticisms being the men’s changing rooms have a poor outdoor and are very stuffy and weekdays there are groups of youngsters at certain pieces of equipment standing around and the equipment does not readily become available to other individuals.”

“Very pleasant atmosphere and mostly helpful, friendly staff. Unfortunately the site is let down when facilities or equipment are not available or functional as this seems to go on for months in some cases before a resolution is achieved. Gym - rowing machines one has no display (over 6 weeks) and all sound as though the bearings are worn. The static stations have a missing weight pin so there is always one station that can’t be used. A lot of the other equipment treadmills, cross trainers have minor issues and in some cases limited functionality. The shower facilities are often not working or only work with cold water.”

“The severn centre is in a very poor state of repair. It smells awful of sewerage, the heating disentbwoek and main alarm system are broken. The changing rooms are very unhygienic and locks are broken on the doors. Thr ceiling is always leaking and the outside space and play area is dangerous and dirty. Staff are lovely and the only reason I attend.”
