About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Sadly staff dont seem interested in ensuring swimmers are using correct lanes. Too many swimmers are spoiling the experience by over taking etc whilst in lane but staff do nothing about it!”

“Very friendly and helpfull staff, constant cleaning of changing and shower areas, really enjoy the facility both the pool and sauna, the only negative is the lack of usable lockers.”

“I joined the centre because I love swimming, however the current restrictions on the swimming timetable which were brought in due to Covid meant that I was unable to swim at a time that suited me around my work and children.”

“Management could be more proactive. Instructor absences not covered. Best instructors left. Expensive compared to other centres. Spin bike repairs not done but parts sitting in boxes. Outdoor pool in Highley poorly managed to fit in with casual staff! Only convenient as in the town centre.”

“The facilities at my Halo centre (Brockworth) are very good. However I have two issues. The amount of time and space allocated to adults for swimming for fitness is inadequate, especially during school term time. The pool stands unused and empty for large parts of the day which is frustrating and also contributes to over-crowding when it is available. Childrens' swimming lessons are routinely allowed to overrun into adult swimming sessions as well. My other issue is with the booking system, which is simply ignored by both centre management and many gym/pool users. This makes it impossible to know whether the facility will be crowded or not because the 'spaces available' notification on the booking app is inherently unreliable due to the large number of peopel who are permitted to show up without booking a space. I don't see the point of having a booking system if it isn't going to be properly enforced.”

“There are many young kids just messing around in the gym and no staff keeping an eye on this and they are distributing others workouts, even though there is signs stating they aren’t allowed in after a certain time, staff still let them. Also the equipment isn’t worth what you pay a month as most of the time it is broken.”
