About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“The center was good but found it hard to get to the times it’s open as in early in the morning, as a lot of people can then train before work. This works better when you have young families.”

“Mainly use it for the climbing wall. Use it once or twice a week and it’s always good fun, excellent instructor, good atmosphere whoever is climbing, some regulars of all ages. I’ve taken my son who’s 8 and my mum who’s 68, it caters for all abilities. Other than that the staff in general at the reception desk, library etc are all brilliant, always happy to help and friendly.”

“I’m hoping I’ve made a mistake but checked several halo pools around Bridgend and it seems I am unable to swim on a Sunday 😳I suspect the reason will be pools are busy with lessons ! I understand that children need to learn and there is demand ,but does this mean that children who are unable to have these lessons are not able to go swimming on Sunday or after school ? This I feel is a money making tactic .”

“The Bridgend Recreation Centre has unfortunately fallen far behind its competitors in recent years. The equipment is outdated and in desperate need of replacement, failing to meet the standards set by other local fitness facilities. The range of machines and free weights is limited, leaving members frustrated and unable to complete their desired workouts effectively. Maintenance appears to be lacking, with some equipment showing signs of wear and tear. The overall atmosphere feels stagnant, as if stuck in the past while other gyms in the area have modernised and improved their offerings. To remain competitive and provide value to its members, Bridgend Recreation Centre must invest in a significant update to its gym facilities. This should include new, state-of-the-art equipment, a broader range of fitness options, and a refreshed layout to create a more motivating exercise environment. Without these improvements, the centre risks losing members to better-equipped alternatives in the area.”

“Ryan symkins at the leisure pool gym has proved what a diligent and helpful soul he is... he ensured my watt bike session was possible even though the screen was not registering. Maybe a simplistic fix but he changed the screen from another bike and connected mains power, hey presto a very happy customer. 😊”

“Sadly staff dont seem interested in ensuring swimmers are using correct lanes. Too many swimmers are spoiling the experience by over taking etc whilst in lane but staff do nothing about it!”
