About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Very welcoming centre. Classes are varied but I mainly use the wellness suite which is very well fitted out. I also go to the Gp referral classes.”

“All reception staff are really friendly and helpful. Some of the greens are in poor condition due to damage caused by animals. Booking T times is easy using the App. Is everyone that plays on the course booking T times? The car parking is an issue for some users of the centre. The members I have interacted with have all had PCNs issued even though they were making use of the facilities at the time. Over stayed the 4 hours by 30 mins having played golf £60. Valid time on ticket, Incorrect entry of a Reg Plate £20. Machine not working £60. PCNs are discouraging use of additional facilities. An annual parking pass has been purchased and alleviated my issue with parking albeit limited to 4 hours, making staying for a coffee to warm up and engage in further social interaction post playing golf highly unlikely. It’s simply not worth risking a hot coffee and chat for a £60 PCN!”

““Pretty terrible welcome at the Leominster centre. Met with unhappy faces an staff moaning at working conditions. Woman with short blond hair needs to smile instead of being so miserable it’s poor customer service. Thinking of cancelling if doesn’t improve. I didn’t feel welcome at all sort it out!!”

“Facilities may be a bit dated but staff more than make up for it many times over. Prices are very reasonable. We only use the pool and changing rooms but value for money is great and as stated staff are excellent.”

“I can only really provide a review based on the group classes that I attend - to date I’ve not yet used the gym facilities. The group classes are great (Body Pump with Caroline & Kettle Bells), the instructors are knowledgeable, push the class hard (but not beyond personal capability), the exercises/routines are varied and overall, fun & friendly sessions. Penny is also a great trainer when she stands in for others who are on leave. All of these classes and trainers, I’d highly recommend. I attend the 9.30am classes which are perfect to fit around school drop off so please don’t change this!”

“The over 55 circuits classes are difficult to book I would love to see extra classes and the same classes rolled out to Ynysawdre and Maesteg. There is obviously a demand.”

“I joined Halo after back surgery. It has really helped with my rehabilitation. The equipment is well looked after, with a great variation. Although a smaller gym, I love that I can nearly always get on the equipment I need. My wife loves the classes available, and the pool is an added bonus. Tuffleys best kept secret.”

“Great staff but not enough classes. Yoga and Pilates are always full. 10am classes are no good to those of us who work full time. For the first time ever I would consider going to another gym as they offer, women only and classes between 6-8am. Plus the classes are repeated. So if you miss a Tuesday you can go on a Thursday. There’s never any staff around to ask about the equipment or plans. No personal trainers. I think I’d rather pay more to have all the above.”
