About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“it,s good but i woukd like them to fix the cable machine and add some more machines e.g. another smith machine, hack squat, hip thrust or flat chest press because they help beginners learn how to control a range of motion better.”

“It’s only small with a few items of equipment, but it’s okay for myself and myself to use. It’s local for us and access is good. Times for access is convenient. Shame some users do not want to clean kit down after use we have seen this on three visits. A hoover would be useful every now and again. I think it’s good that Halo have this facility in place.”

“I have never had a problem with the centre, however the gym changing rooms/showers could have something done to them, they are not inviting or very pleasant.”

“The gym is really well equipped and the refurbished pool is what the town has been waiting for. My grandson has recently started swimming lessons here - he loves it. Really good range of classes too Nice little cafe 👍”

“Staff firendly and professional. Facilities clean. Instructors make the classes fun and enjoyable while motivating you to improve your personal fitness level. Sometimes difficult to get booked onto popular classes due to demand.”

“Friendly. Some ideas... get some lockers near the gym so you don't have to go into the pool changing area which is often very wet. Play music in the gym (sometimes it's silent) and perhaps a little louder. Thanks”

Hi Jason Thank you for your recent 3 star review. We do have a process to follow for updates to the facility and new lockers for upstairs are being decided upon for this financial year so good news there. As for the music, we would agree that it can sometimes be quiet but with most people relying on personal music we feel it is better to keep it quieter and not have the music too loud. “The receptionists are always helpful and friendly. I visit Rhydycar and Aberfan; Rhydycar's facilities are great, but Aberfan could do with updating and a refit, particularly in the changing rooms.”

“I am writing to express my gratitude and appreciation for the outstanding service provided during my daughter’s swimming party at Merthyr Leisure Centre on 26th January 2025. The staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and attentive throughout the event. Their efforts ensured that my daughter and her friends had an absolutely amazing time, filled with fun and laughter. It was clear that the team went above and beyond to make the day special, and their hard work did not go unnoticed. My daughter is still talking about what a fantastic day she had, and her friends couldn’t stop saying how much fun it was. “The new pool is very good but the water temperature varies every time I use it , also the walk into the changing rooms is freezing but the pool showers and needs more frequent cleaning”
