About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Very pleasant staff on reception but could not help me with one enquiry. I use the app to book activities and could not see squash on the app. I have re-introduced my 2 daughters and son to squash and it’s been great to find a place to play again. I hope it can be resolved soon.”

“Excellent swimming pool, wonderful manager and staff. It’s about time Halo gave us significant investment in our lockers, changing rooms and facilities. They have not been invested in for decades. Promoting the fact that Ynysawdre is getting new lockers but Maesteg gets nothing.”

“The taps in the men’s toilets in the pool changing room do not work properly. The health suite jacuzzi should have a timer, as is used by the sauna. The number of Gentle Swim sessions appears to have been reduced, when prices have been increased.”

“Outside of work, Halo Leisure Centre is literally my life- gym and golf, all for a bargain price. Gym has everything a guy could want. Only suggestion is that the background music should be quieter- 90% of people have headphones listening to what they want and if the music interferes with that then you have to turn the volume up on earpods/headphones, not doing your ears much good. I listen to audio books on Audible so often have to turn my volume to max... Thanks”

“The staff at both Bridgnorth and Highley are friendly and very helpful. Changing rooms are generally clean too. Areas for improvement would be offering swim only membership like other centres do, as we're all being squeezed and those of us who only swim can't justify paying for facilities we don't use. Swim sessions could perhaps be organised differently to allow more swimmers in, and family fun days could be introduced on weekends with ice creams, tuck shop etc like they used to.”

“I use Ynysawdre Halo centre as it is local to my house. It used to represent good value for money, but several of the classes I attended, Body Sculpt on a Thursday and LBT on a Friday have now stopped - this is for £41 a month. The gym is okay, but the classes offer is poor. I am probably going to cancel my membership and join Puregym - if only because it will be 30% cheaper The instructors are excellent however.”

“I have been attending acqua at Cwmbran stadium for 18 yrs since COVID you have had to book via the app..paying members are allowed to book prior to allowing over 60s to book which are free paid for by grants. I feel this is discrimination to over 60s..the classes on Wednesday and Thursday are always full I think more courses could be offered as acqua especially for over 60s is very popular.”

“I've been using Maesteg swimming pool for many years. I am disappointed to write a poor review as the staff are wonderful. However, the condition of the pool, changing rooms and public areas are in such a poor state, I have withdrawn my monthly membership as its not worth the cost. Money urgently needs to be spent on this much needed facility.”
