About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“The staff at both Bridgnorth and Highley are friendly and very helpful. Changing rooms are generally clean too. Areas for improvement would be offering swim only membership like other centres do, as we're all being squeezed and those of us who only swim can't justify paying for facilities we don't use. Swim sessions could perhaps be organised differently to allow more swimmers in, and family fun days could be introduced on weekends with ice creams, tuck shop etc like they used to.”

“I use Ynysawdre Halo centre as it is local to my house. It used to represent good value for money, but several of the classes I attended, Body Sculpt on a Thursday and LBT on a Friday have now stopped - this is for £41 a month. The gym is okay, but the classes offer is poor. I am probably going to cancel my membership and join Puregym - if only because it will be 30% cheaper The instructors are excellent however.”

“I have been attending acqua at Cwmbran stadium for 18 yrs since COVID you have had to book via the app..paying members are allowed to book prior to allowing over 60s to book which are free paid for by grants. I feel this is discrimination to over 60s..the classes on Wednesday and Thursday are always full I think more courses could be offered as acqua especially for over 60s is very popular.”

“I've been using Maesteg swimming pool for many years. I am disappointed to write a poor review as the staff are wonderful. However, the condition of the pool, changing rooms and public areas are in such a poor state, I have withdrawn my monthly membership as its not worth the cost. Money urgently needs to be spent on this much needed facility.”

“O would be more regular at the centre but my disability causing great pain and inconvenience at the moment!!verry impressed with Halo in Hereford and the various Hatdware in the gym is most impressive and and effective to use but unfortunately my Carer is no longer able to take me for my sessions so I am trying to find a temporary stand in to bring me down to the gym to go through my schedule hopefully I will be back very soon Regards, John Fisher 47 Homestead Putson”

“I mostly used Halo for lane swimming and sauna - usually twice a week, and maybe once a week for the gym. I never used the classes because they always seemed to be booked up. The lane swimming was mostly really busy too. I started having a skin reaction on my face - I don't know if the pool water caused it, but it certainly aggravated it, so. that's th reason for stopping going.”

“The centre was always clean and staff friendly. However the reason I quit was due to cost going up and service provided not being improved, also due to lots of equipment I want not being available, and also mainly due to the amount of teenagers attending, I have no issue with young people being in the gym but this gym is often overrun with teens in the evenings, who aren’t even using the equipment but filming their friends etc which made me feel rather uncomfortable, I didn’t feel comfortable approaching staff about this.”
