I got a pug pure breed puppy July 2024 and looked around for pet insurance i read many bad reviews of people being refused payouts when their pet was ill but one company (waggle) kept coming up with positive reviews about how great they were so i opted for them hoping i would never need to claim unfortunately that moment came 1 day after maxs 1st birthday i very nearly lost him to meningococcal bacteria waggle came to maxs aid and paid out in full the staff were fantastic so supportive and sympathetic and sorted my claim within 4 weeks i highly recommend them they have been absolutely brilliant

We've been extremely disappointed with Waggel and definitely would not recommend. We have had 2 claims denied unfairly, in our opinion: - Our dog needed surgery to remove a retained puppy tooth; she was a puppy when we took out the insurance, but a puppy having puppy teeth was classed as a "pre-existing condition". - Our cat chipped a tooth and vet advice for the past 3 years had been to leave it as it was. The most recent check-up identified root pulp showing and recommended further work; this was denied. Apparently we should have had the tooth taken out within 3 months of the chip, against vet advice. Our vet even offered to follow up with Waggel as they thought it was unfair! Communication - I put in a request for information on Brucellosis testing, I never received a response. Finally, we decided to cancel the policies having paid £1100 for dental surgery this year on top of annual vaccinations and flea / worm treatment. Less than a week later we reconsidered and asked to re-start the policies. Waggel said this wasn't possible, we would have to obtain a new quote and start the whole process again, despite the policies being renewed this month. When I spoke to someone at Waggel about it, they were very unhelpful, just repeating the company line. In summary, I would not recommend Waggel. If you do decide to go with them, make sure you go over the policy with a fine tooth comb, as they seem to have wording to enable them to wiggle out of every claim. They are cheap for a reason!

Hi Rachel, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience with Waggel has not met your expectations. Regarding the claims that were declined: our decisions are based on the terms and conditions of the policy, which outline specific timeframes and definitions around pre-existing conditions. In the case of the retained puppy tooth, any condition that is present or observable before the policy start date — regardless of age — falls within the definition of a pre-existing condition. Similarly, for your cat’s chipped tooth, treatment is expected within a 3 month time frame. We understand your vet offered to support your case, and we always consider additional clinical input — if this hasn’t been submitted yet, we would be happy to review it. On the topic of communication: we apologise that you didn’t receive a response regarding your Brucellosis query — this is not the standard we aim to uphold, and we'll look into what happened there to improve our process. With regard to the policy cancellation and your request to reinstate it: once a policy is cancelled, it cannot be reactivated. While we understand this can be frustrating, this approach ensures fairness and consistency across all policyholders. Starting a new policy does require a fresh quote, as circumstances and cover eligibility may change. We do encourage all customers to read through the policy documents carefully, and we make them available from the outset so everything is clear before cover begins. We’re transparent about what is and isn’t covered, and while we know our pricing is competitive, our goal is always to offer straightforward, accessible cover — not to cut corners. We appreciate your feedback and will continue working to improve clarity and service across the board. Thanks, The Waggel Team
Stay clear of waggle, 6 months and still my first claim not being finalised, they continue to say they haven't received medical history or vet report yet there champions as they call them are chasing it up. Their so happy to take your money not so happy to pay out.😡never trust waggle

Hi Yvonne, Thank you for your feedback, and we're sorry to hear how frustrating things felt during the early part of your claim experience. We’ve looked into your case and can confirm your claim was settled within a month of submission. While there may have been some initial delays in receiving medical records from your vet, once those were received, our team processed the claim promptly. That said, we completely understand how stressful it can be when things aren’t progressing as expected — especially when your pet’s wellbeing is involved. We’re constantly working to improve communication and reduce any bottlenecks with third-party record requests. If you have any further questions or concerns, we’re always here to help via live chat. – The Waggel Team
I would give a swerve, hopeless kept taking the direct debit and generally the pets should be in charge.

Hi Joanne, We're sorry to hear you're unhappy with your experience. We aim to handle all claims fairly and in line with our policy terms, and it's never our intention to cause frustration. They will use any measure to get out of paying a claim. I have had an insurance policy with them for the last 2 years and made my first claim last month. First they told me they couldn't pay it because it was in the first 14 days of my policy, ie my continued cover with them. When I contested this they said he had a pre-existing condition because he had a 24hour bout of sickness 11months prior. I did not make a claim, used the online Vet and paid the actual vet fees to get him checked out where I was told I was worrying over nothing bas he had probably just eaten something that didn't agree, as he was bright and responsive. Anti-sickness medication and he was right as rain the next day. They have used the fact my care and due diligence against me. They will use any excuse to avoid paying. God forbid it was something more serious and expensive. I will be going elsewhere from now on.

Hi Lisa, Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We understand how frustrating it must be to have a claim declined, especially after being a customer for two years and taking all the right steps to care for your pet. Our intention is never to avoid paying claims, but to assess them fairly and consistently in line with the policy terms that apply to all customers. In this case, the claim was declined due to the pre-existing condition clause. Even short episodes of illness, if they occur before the policy start date or during the waiting period, can unfortunately affect future cover — even when they seem minor at the time. We appreciate how upsetting this must be, particularly when you acted responsibly and sought professional advice. If you have any further questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our customer team — we’d be happy to talk it through with you. - The Waggel Team
Waggel denied our recent insurance claim as well, using some nonsense small print. The email came from a NoReply email so you can't respond to it, and there is no phone number on their website! And no Contact Us page. They clearly want to make it as difficult as possible to contact them. Their website says they pay out on 9 out of 10 claims but just look at the reviews on this page! Avoid them.

Really really do not use this company. They will take your premium quite happily but will use any excuse not to pay out. My 12 year old dog needed her teeth cleaned, in order to keep her mouth as healthy as possible. She has had this done before a few years ago. They will not pay out for this despite the dental insurance cover because they read her medical notes and say that she has previous dental disease. My vet went out of her way to write directly to them stating that my dog has never had dental disease. A chipped tooth that causes her no problems at all, is not dental disease. Mild gingivitis which cleared up once her teeth were cleaned last time is not dental disease. I am convinced the assessors at this company have little in the way of veterinarian training. If they did, they would be able to understand the most simple evidence from vets. They read into these medical records what they want to read in order to avoid paying out. Why pay for something you do not receive. I will be putting the money I pay out into a savings account. Much better value.

DO NOT INSURE WITH WAGGEL Let me explain what happened as I am highly disappointed after hearing only good things about this company. I picked up my puppy on the 7th of October which is also when I joined waggel, and my dog was taken to the vet on the 14th of October which the vet discovered both her ears were heavily infected, we got given drops for £40 which we decided not to make a claim for, however a week later we began talking about a swab to detect the bacteria due to the drops only slightly helping her left ear, we waited a week with no change on the 28th of October we did the swab for roughly £175 pounds which is alot of money hence why our vet told us to make a claim and that it should get covered without any issues. We'll I made the claim and they declined within 1-2 days due to it being classified as a Pre- existing condition due to being diagnosed during the 2 week policy period which I was very upset about because we were claiming for the SWAB which was AFTER the 2 week period, I disputed the claim, then on the 31st of October the swab results came back and I collected medication the same day, it was £42.68 which the vet also said to claim. I then mentioned that my swab claim was declined which they were shocked about! I later that evening made a claim for the medication hoping they would atleast cover that. A day later I checked the website and of course both were declined. I am HIGHLY disappointed and appalled by the way you don't even get to speak to real person. Once I find another insurance I will be leaving IMMEDIATELY I have huge regrets in joining the company they are using pre - existing condition as an excuse for not covering any required medication or swabs AFTER that period this has caused enough stress for me and my family because that is almost £260 that I didn't not get a penny of coverage for. I know I'm not the only one who has experienced this, seriously waggel you need to care less about money and more about helping cover costs after all that is why people have pet insurance. PLEASE WHATEVER YOU DO DONT JOIN WAGGEL.

Please read reviews from people who have actually tried to make a claim - I really wish I had! I insured my dog at 15 months old after using my savings to start my own business - this was the sensible thing to do in the event anything happened and I didn’t have money set aside. My young dog had NO pre existing ‘conditions’. This company/processes all fine until the time comes to claim. I’m a dog trainer and behaviourist and will never ever recommend Waggel to any current or future client after the experience I have had. They have taken a note made on a single vet visit when my puppy was 9 months old to get out of paying a claim worth £2.5k to date. I have now had to cancel my dog’s referral for a CT scan which was valued at £1500-£2500 as Waggel will not pay this either. The note said that I’d noticed an occasional twitch when my puppy was stroked. The vet found nothing of concern. I had him looked over by a canine massage therapist too who didn’t even charge me as there was nothing to see. I was essentially just a paranoid first time puppy owner! Fast forward TWO YEARS and my dog has been having investigations into an abnormal gait. X rays, hydro and acupuncture totalling over £2.5k not covered because of this note. They have an exclusion on my file for ‘spasms’. My vets exact words were ‘excluding spasm is hilarious - that might be a new insurance company low’. For a start every muscle is different you can’t just exclude every single trigger point. If it wasn’t so expensive it WOULD be hilarious. I highly doubt my vet or anyone else involved in my dog’s treatment would be recommending Waggel either going by their comments to me! I’ll be issuing a complaint and then escalating to the Financial Ombudsman. Do yourself a favour, suck up the higher premiums and go for a well renowned pet insurance company like PetPlan.

Used Waggle after reading the reviews and wish I had not. I insure 5 animals with them and have recently submitted the only claim ever and had this rejected. My dog tore his cruciate ligament in his knee and required surgery. They have refused to pay out as I did not declare he was an aggressive dog when taking out the policy. I did not as he is not an aggressive dog. When they obtained his vet records they went over them from when he was a puppy and it mentioned him nipping me which all puppies do. The vet records also mentioned he needs a muzzle when examined and is a reactive dog again most dogs are at the vets. Because of this they said I did not declare he was aggressive in the declaration section, I didn’t as he is not aggressive and has never bitten a third party. They have refused to pay because of this and cancelled his insurance. This will of course make it hard for me to insure elsewhere. Of course I will be cancelling all five animals insurance and am taking this matter to the ombudsman. Terrible service find anything not to honour their side of the contract.

!!! AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST !!! I have paid always my insurance on time as it was through direct debit, my dog never had any medical issues so i didn't put any claim forward since the beginning of the contract. One day my dog gets seizures and had to put her off, paid the vets bills and raised a claim with this insurance company, over 5 weeks and they are still not giving me any money back as they can't reach out the vet to give them a medical history even though my dog was never ill or had any issues.

Hi Irina, In order to make a fair assessment we require your pets medical history from the vet, without this we wouldn’t be able to determine the treatment your pet has had. As we haven’t received a response from your vet, this matter has been escalated to our underwriter for advice on how to proceed. Once a decision has been reached, your customer champion will be in touch. Kind regards, Mareia
I’ve had an issue that they have dealt with really well so far. If this continues then it will have been a great service from the team

More interested in their procedures than their customers, vets or pets. My dog has a condition which needs life long treatment. Every month I get a supply of pills which keep him ok. Every month I submit a continuation claim and send the invoice. Now they tell me that they need a medical history for each continuation claim. When I point out that they already have his history, know what the treatment is, know how much has been paid they say they're following "formal procedures " The procedures don't tell them anything they don't already know and just create bureaucratic work for the vets. Waggel sucks

Hi Robert, I understand your frustration, however as per the terms of your policy we require your pets full and up to date medical history in order to assess all claims. If you would like to discuss this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards, Mareia
Absolute con artists. Happy to take money, then use words vets use to refuse a claim. Who knew that "flare up" actually meant a pre existing medical condition. Stay clear!

Hi Nicola, I understand your dissatisfaction, however as an insurance company we must abide by the terms of our policy. We assess all claims based on the information which is provided to us by the customers vet and in line with the terms of the policy. Unfortunately, on this occasion we wouldn’t be able to provide cover for this claim, as the condition is pre-existing. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards, Mareia
DO NOT INSURE THROUGH WAGGEL. STAY CLEAR..... The Future Of Pet Insurance. What a crock of S**T. My dog had been insured a couple of years through this SHODDY company. My dog had never needed to go to the vets in 6 years of his life but unfortunately had to have a xray due to lameness. £1000 later these fraudsters refuse to pay as my husband used terminology at the vets he wouldn't be able to work him and would have to retire him which meant no fun training as he is from working lines. Vets confirmed he was not a working dog but a pet but that's it one wrong word used and these con artists take your money but have no intention of paying out. Personally wouldn't give you one star. Cancelled all insurances through this company not even worth my time.

Hi Julie, I’m sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction. We assess all claims based on the information which is provided to us by the customers vet. On this occasion it was evident from the medical history that your dog was a working dog, and this is against the terms of our policy. The policy was therefore void, as inaccurate information was provided upon inception. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards, Mareia
Do not use take your money then do all they can to refuse your claim, worst insurance company I have ever used, absolutely poor service

Will not pay out on first claim avoid at all cost. No previous medical conditions. Terrible company will no be renewing policy.

Hi Scott, I’m sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction. Unfortunately, as per the terms of your policy the treatment which you are claiming for is excluded. They make up ridiculous convenient diagnoses to decline claims. I don't know that other "schemes" they have in their sleeves, but I decided to stop wasting my money. My advice: open a saving deposit for you pets and put your money there. That would be waaaaay more useful than any pet "insurance" Good health to your pets!
