“I have used the service of this company, they paid me just over a 100 pounds. Next thing I received a letter from HMRC to say I owe them more than 1000 pounds! I have contacted them and they said I am paying back the refund that I was not entitled to! And this is all because of the tax refund company! I am now having to pay back everything that they received from my tax! Do not ever trust anyone to act on your behalf in order to receive refund, this is all an absolute fraud! I am so sorry for contacting this company and never ever will do it again!!!”

Hi Svetlana, thanks for getting in touch regarding this matter. From what we can see, the tax that you owe has nothing to do with the claim that we made on your behalf. HMRC would not have sent us a refund if this was the case. We will contact HMRC to clarify what has happened but looking at your original application, it looks as though the tax that you owe is due to extra employment that you have not told us about. When someone has more than one job at the same time, in most cases HMRC will issue you with a separate tax code for each job. It may be that HMRC have supplied the same tax code to each employer which would mean that you would have been taxed incorrectly at the time. As I have already mentioned, this will have had nothing to do with the claim that we made for you but we will still investigate this issue with HMRC on your behalf and let you know the outcome as soon as we can confirm. Hi Svetlana, As promised we have been in touch with HMRC on your behalf. They have informed us that they had sent you a refund in error the year before you applied to us and unlike where you state that you are having to repay the refund “All because of the tax refund company” it actually has nothing to do with the claim we made for you at all. We have also found that it seems that you weren’t totally honest with us when you applied – allow me to explain: During our application process, we ask all our clients if they have received a refund from HMRC in the last 4 years. If they have, we ask when they received it and how much it was for. This is so that we can take this into account when we are trying to find out if the client is due a further refund. When we asked you this question, you told us that you hadn't had a refund – but you had (as mentioned above). If you had told us about your refund we would have been able to investigate this further. We would have discovered that HMRC had made a mistake and shouldn't have issued you with the initial refund so would have told you that they will be asking for that money back. We would also have told you that we would have been able to help you with this matter and reduce the amount you owe them by making our claim. But as you didn't tell us, we made our claim in good faith and the 2 matters have been dealt with separately by HMRC, so you are left with repaying the full “initial” amount that they refunded to you by mistake. It's unfortunate when HMRC make mistakes like this as they almost always realise what has happened and then take the money back again. Where you state “I am now having to pay back everything they received from my tax” this is not true either, you are only having to pay back the money that they incorrectly refunded you – the refund we got for you was correct. In some of the final words of your review, you advise “Do not ever trust anyone to act on your behalf in order to receive a refund, this is all an absolute fraud! I am so sorry for contacting this company and never ever will do it again!” – Perhaps you should change this to something along the lines of “When asking someone to work on your behalf, for best results, always make sure you give them all of the information they ask for”.
