The courses they offer do cover a lot of great material. However, that's not enough for me to warrant a higher review. Let me break down why. First, there a tremendous amount of grammar mistakes like: misspelled words, run on sentences, improper use of punctuation (using the wrong punctuation, too much punctuation, or not enough), awkwardly phrased sentences (sentences that don't make sense), sentences that improperly use single and plural forms (some sentences were completely singular and had a random plural word or would be completely plural with a random singular word, and more. Second, the amount of duplicated material in courses between units that don't add any additional information or point than what was previously given. Third, on multiple choice exams there were many questions that either: A) had more than one actual answer in the answer key. B) the question being asked and the answer needed did not align (meaning the question asked about one thing, but the answer had to do with something totally different). C) were poorly/ confusingly written in a way that even when you went to look back at any note you made and the material they gave throughout the course you still couldn't make any sense of it and had to randomly guess. Fourth, the written exams are extremely poorly put together. 1. There is clearly a misunderstanding about how word count works. You can't ask someone to answer a 3/4 part question in 150 words if you're asking someone to (using tenses for example): A) explain/ list all of the tenses (past, past simple, past simple perfect, past continuous, past perfect continuous, present, present perfect simple, present simple, present continuous, present perfect continuous, future, future simple, future perfect simple, future continuous, future perfect continuous) B) explain how they form and as used C) compare and contrast them D) explain why tense is important and what would occur if we didn't have it. Word count by definition is the minimum required amount of words needed to accurately convey the material information to someone who "does not" know anything about the material. The questions being asked and the material needed to answer questions do not align with the word count most of not all of the time. 2. There were a few times where the question being asked was not the question they wanted answered. There were at least 2-3 times where I was told that no one else had pointed out this problem. I would get feedback back saying I answered the question wrong that "this" was the information they were looking for but the question was not asking for that information. If this were an actual educational institution (primary or secondary) the teacher would've gotten into trouble. I will give an example not related to the ones from the exams. Ex: If the teacher showed you a picture of a dog and a cat and asked you to talk about the dog. Then fail your answer because they wanted to know about the cat. If you want an answer or explanation about something specific then you need to ask that. You don't ask about something else, and then fail students for giving an answer that answers the question you asked. 3. If you ask students to come up with their own lesson plan. You can't fail them for it, because it doesn't look like the lesson plan you would design. Everyone will have their own unique style of teaching and how they write their lesson plans. Additionally, it makes no sense to me as to why a tutor would share the information written in the lesson plans with students. As lesson plans are meant to be the guide for the teacher during the lesson. Students may get an overview in a syllabus, but beyond that they aren't going to need to know how and why you structured the lesson. What is important is that the students are being taught the material, that they can practice the material, and that they begin to understand or understand the material presented. The example plans shown at times left me with more questions. For example: activity on the board practicing past continuous tense. P/W 1. This is awkwardly worded. 2. What kind of activity (as this doesn't specify)? 3. How is the activity going to work? 4. Does P/W mean pair work? Does it mean pair work and whole class? It's much simpler to just write out pair work. Also, standard writing dictates that before be abbreviate a word we must spell the word/ words out in their entirety. This is to prevent confusion and allow readers to go back in the text to see what the abbreviation meant if they forget. This rule doesn't apply for commonly used abbreviations (etc, ex/eg, cont). Most abbreviations also don't use a backslash there are exceptions like N/A, but most of the time people would just write PW for pair work if they are abbreviating it unnecessarily. 4. Shorthand should not be used when writing a lesson plans as you may forget while teaching what your shorthand meant. Fifth, practice quizzes that don't count are a good idea. However, the point of practice tests or quizzes are that they contain questions that may be on the graded test. It is extremely rare to have dozens or more practice quizzes and not have a single question from those ever appear on a graded test. Now, I am not saying every question from a practice quiz or test should be on the graded test. There should at least be one or two though. Especially, if prior to taking the graded test one of the recommendations is to review the practice quizzes. Lastly, in the forum where students ask questions and can respond to each other there is an astronomical amount of students saying the say things. They mention the same issues and problems that don't seem to get resolved or fixed. Which creates the following questions: 1. Why haven't any of the problems been fixed? 2. Why haven't any of the grammatical errors been fixed? 3. Why haven't any of the questions/ answers in both multiple choice and written exams been fixed? 4. Is there even an editor or someone who reviews the material before it was published? Or a team dedicated to updating and fixing the current errors to prevent future issues? This is why I gave the rating I did. To me it's mind boggling that a program geared towards helping create future English language teachers has this many issues. That even with multiple years of students who have paid to learn have said the same things and nothing has changed.

Very easy to follow lessons. I always thought I knew little about English Grammar, even as a native speaker, so I was glad to learn this along the way. Has great ideas for lesson structures and the video recording of the classes were a great help.

TEFL was an incredibly well organized and managed system, with educational modules, and a great amount of support which ensured that it is a very enjoyable and beneficial programme. It is very easy to allocate time for it during a regular work week, making it easy to complete within the desired 6 month deadline. The content of the course was great and effective in preparing me for a teaching career. However, I expected more teaching practice, like a five minute teaching video and reveiving feedback. As a non-native English teacher, I found most of the content biased promoting native speakers as prefered English teachers.

The tutor replied very quickly to the submitted assignments. Each lesson uses video and transcript to better understand the information. The lesson plans had to be very detailed which can be daunting if you are a creative type of teacher who is used to teaching by having a topic lesson and going with the flow of the class, but it is good to have such detailed lesson plans for organization and keeping time. One negative was that Michael Swan's Practical English Usage (recommended by TEFL) did not use the same terminology as TEFL classes [i.e. TEFL uses "past continuous interrupted" but Swan uses "past progressive and simple past: 'background' events" (Swan, section 5, #45) to mean the same thing], so when I looked for help in understanding the Methodology Unit 12 assignment, I had difficulty finding it in Swan's because it was under a different name. However, overall, I was impressed by this TEFL program of teaching and the excellent communication from the tech help staff as well as the tutor. My daughter is now enrolled and hopes to work in Europe after she passes the TEFL course.

I found the writing assessment/ support component really light on. This is the hardest section of all exams, the most time consuming for teachers and students. I think the course should be helping teachers use tools to diagnose and personalise students learning and support . There is a classroom theme across the whole course. I think getting students into self directed mode is the future of scalable teaching and learning. Would be happy to show you what we do in Literatu scribo.

The course is structured and well prepared. The content is definitely self directed, however you get feedback on submitted work. The submissions are graded and given feedback which is fair and apt, however the AI detection tool is over zealous and not partial to the human condition so to say.

I recently completed the advanced online course and can recommend it! this follows my completion of the 120 hour course one year ago, the 40 hour course is well structured and informative with useful video demonstrations on the pro’s and con’s of each platform, my tutor gave me prompt and encouraging feedback on the assignments along with additional viewpoints to consider. Tefl.org is rapidly covering all the bases needed to enable teachers to teach effectively in many different scenarios.

Overall, the TEFL course, encompassing all five modules, was incredibly helpful, engaging, and insightful. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my tutor, Alex, who went above and beyond to support me throughout my TEFL academic journey. His prompt feedback on my assignments—always within 24 hours of submission—was both thoughtful and constructive. He consistently provided me with practical advice and thought-provoking insights. This made the learning experience truly enjoyable and rewarding. The only aspect I was less satisfied with was the technical performance of the website. It may be related to Safari, which is my default browser, but I found it frustrating that completing the quizzes was unnecessarily time-consuming. After submitting each answer, the page would automatically scroll to the top, forcing me to scroll back down to submit the next answer. Addressing this issue would significantly improve the user experience and save time for future students.

I took the Young Learners Course, and was happy to learn a few things to bring into the classroom when teaching. I have experience with teaching English to adults, so this course was helpful with adding more to my repretoire focused on young learners. I think something the course could improve upon is maybe adding a lesson plan unit to the course so that students will feel more prepared when it comes to do the assignments. Although I have written a few lesson plans before this, they were all for adult students. More information on how different a lesson plan should be for an adult learner versus a young learner would be helpful for future students interested in taking the course.

I truly enjoyed my 120-h TEFL course, I find it very useful for future teachers, but also easy to understand and very practical. I also enjoyed the way the course was structured: a good combination of videos, texts, activities, quizzes and assignments made it interesting and easy to follow. The course was rich in information but not overloaded, and the time allowed for the course to be finished was very reasonable. I would also like to thank Dee for all the feedback provided!
