“This course is poorly designed for users from the US. The zoom virtual meeting were limited and during the middle of the night for US time zone. There were only a few options to chose from and none accommodated the US time. Also the zoom classes were hours long which was overwhelming given the amount of material needed to do and learn. Overall, the module assignments were graded by an online tutor who gives feedback yet you cannot ask or reply to them.”

We certainly have our Zoom virtual meetings at all times throughout the day and night, so as to accommodate our students all over the world. These can be chosen by the student at any time throughout their online course. It is also not essential to have completed your full course before attending the Zoom sessions, but these sessions can also be attended after your online course expires if preferred - we always leave this choice up to the student. Regarding the module assignments, we appreciate your recognition of the feedback provided by our online tutors. However, you will have received an email from your tutor when you first signed up detailing their direct contact details. So you could certainly have reached out to them direct at any time. “Overall, the course felt very disorganized and outdated. I appreciate the reasonable price, but if it were up to me I would revamp the course structure to make it more cohesive and effective. It also unfortunately reminded me of certain classes in high school/college in which I wasn't able to learn much or make the material my own because I had to learn what the specific teacher wanted and cater to them, telling them what they wanted to hear so I could pass the class but in a way that did not assist in my intellectual growth. It could also use some zhush to make it a little more interesting and eye-catching to help the prospective teachers stay engaged and therefore bring some of that magic into their own lessons to help their students.”

“A dated, amateuristic and poor vaky for money offering. Very poor user interface making getting through the many tiny but insubstantial units an enormous annoyance and a waste of time being forced to scroll up and down to get to the button to move on. The quizzes often have technical difficulties making them impossible to complete, the classroom examples are outdated and amateurish, etc. Serious case of buyer's regret here.”

“The TEFL courses need better structuring. If the courses were arranged in ascending levels of importance or relevance I would have learnt more and learnt better. Students should be advised in the order in which they take the course. Also, the videos are borrring! (emphasis). Video angles, audio and lesson structure definitely needs to be better especially with the high cost of the TEFL courses. I don't think there is value for money here. Unfortunately I had recommended a friend at the beginning who took the course with me and our experiences are comparable. Quite a mundane course.”

“Too much learning online, some things don't make sense. Need interaction with others and chance to ask questions etc. Classroom based stuff was out of sync, would have been good to know how you start teaching a new group or people for the first time, how it all works, not just endless PPP and Skills. What do you teach? Colours? Objects? Didn't get to find out more on last day. Want to feel confident going to a language school and knowing how it works, but don't at all.”

As an online course provider, we would not be able to make changes to how our classes are delivered. We do also recommend that the in-person element of our course be completed near the end, as it's a great way of consolidating the theory studied online. “Whilst I am a novice to teaching. I feel any course without any type of practical or group experience is pointless. The course teaches you to write a few lesson plans but you by no means have any real idea how to teach after 120hours. I certainly dont feel any more knowledgeable or confident I could walk into a classroom and teach. I beleive there is much more to teaching than this basic outline that is given. I am honestly concerned people are going out in the world and teaching off of the back of this course. Whilst that may say alot about me. I felt very dissatisfied what this course offered. Im glad I got it during a sale and not paid the full course amount. I dont wish to speak ill off TEFL. They gave me an opportunity and the course was accessible via pc and smart phone. The videos and all the aspects provided are clear ,well laid out and have good production.”

It sounds like you had chosen one of our online only courses, rather than a course that includes teaching practice. Although you'll find most employers will request a minimum of 120-hours of TEFL training, many do not require this to include any teaching experience. We train thousands of students a year who go on to live and work abroad successfully with their online only certificate. For our teachers that feel they would benefit from a teaching practice though, we offer combined and stand-alone courses with this. “I had to re-do my written assignments so many times because each time they would mark it and give me feedback on what to fix, it would be something different. I would have preferred for them to tell me everything I needed to fix the first time I submitted an assignment instead of making me re-do it 6 times across several weeks because they’d only tell me one thing to fix at a time. At a certain point I started feeling like it might be a scam, dragging it out to force me to pay the extension costs. I’ve heard there’s a way to get your tefl for free, or at the very least there are better sites. Don’t choose this one.”

Our tutors do certainly follow a strict structure which ensures that our courses continue to meet the accreditation criteria. As the most accredited TEFL course provider in the UK it means that schools all around the world know a TEFL Org qualified teacher will be a great asset to them. We also encourage our students to contact their tutor direct if they ever need support with an assignment. There are many different TEFL Course providers, so it can be very difficult to know who you should pick, and I appreciate your comments regarding free courses. However, the TEFL Industry is dangerously under-regulated which means that anyone can start a company and call themselves a TEFL Course provider and offer courses. As there is no regulatory body for TEFL, the key to ensuring you choose the right TEFL Provider is looking at how much independent accreditation they have from recognised bodies. Here at The TEFL Org, employers recognise our certificates as being from one of the highest accredited TEFL providers in the world. “This TEFL course/provider unfortunately fell short of my expectations. Despite its high price, even after a discount, the absence of the accreditation body's logo on the certificate raises doubts about the legitimacy of the certificate. Although it's written at the back in plain English it's far below my expectation after spending such a big amount compared to the other market leading providers. I also found the phone unavailable most of the time. Furthermore, the unavailability of the telephone line on multiple occasions hindered communication. If I think the advertised price (*which is crossed out, and the courses are being offered at a so-called discounted price)it doesn't justify the quality of the content or certificate. The certificate's lack of explicit mention of course accreditation added to the overall disappointment. While the course provided some valuable content, these issues significantly diminished its value, and I cannot confidently recommend it.”

“You initially gave me an impression that if I do not complete a TEFL course before the due date, all progress will be lost. I therefore kept extending the course and paying lots of extra money. Eventually, due to circumstances, I had to leave my course temporarily. I later found out that my course progress remained and I had been misled by your website.”

Please be assured that we always advise students that they can buy an extension any time they wish, and don’t need to activate it until they are completely ready to restart their online work. We also advise that you do not need to purchase an extension to keep your course open. All of your work will be saved. “The whole experience was ruined for me due to the last assignment which i had to redo 7 times. I can understand the genuine feedback given but the last 2 times were just ridiculous when i was told that i could do better than what i had sent. It personally felt that the tutor was doing this so that i would extend my course. I really felt that i was being pushed by a salesman in the last 2 attempts rather than a tutor. This is really bad and I wish that your organisation looks real hard at such people. I had to mntion in my last attempt as a sidenote that the tutor seemed like a money grubbing salesman and thats when i was cleared. It is my humble request that such people should not be allowed to taint the education of anyone.”

“I was very frustrated with one tutor, who just gave me a feeling that that they wanted me to just pay an extension for the course and kept sending my assignment back for flimsy reasons. In my last attempt when I blatantly mentioned that it felt the tutor seemed like a money-grubbing salesperson, the assignment was cleared. This has really made me bitter because only 1 assignment was returned at least 6 times. I can understand when it was genuine but after putting in the hours when a tutor returns for ridiculous reason saying that you can do better than this is really aggravating. It is my sincere request that you look into such tutors as it will only kill your reputation.”

“Some of the courses offered are ok, like the grammar course and the methodology course but the rest seemed a little outdated. I needed to get the certification for a specific job but I have been an ESL teacher for years and I believe this course could have included more. The Telephone classes course was especially underwhelming and I believe that the extension system is absurd and meant to take advantage of your customers. Thank you for the certificate, I guess...”

Our courses do have to follow a strict structure which ensures that these continue to meet the high standard accreditation criteria. Including the Telephone class course. We are still finding many people around the world don't have easy access to the internet or still use Skype etc. We try to make sure that our courses cover this so that teachers have the tools to provide English lessons to everyone, no matter where they are in the world. As will all online course providers, we do provide a time-frame to complete our courses. Although most students complete these within 12 weeks, we provide 5 to 7 months for completion - depending on the course chosen. Thank you again for your feedback. “The course is OK. The assignments seemed to be a bit of a shot in the dark. I also found the tutors feedback to be more confusing than useful. As an example, I submitted an assignment which didn't pass. I took all the feedback on board and resubmitted it. I was then told to pay attention to the feedback...?!?!? Seemed like different tutors were grading the assignment.”

“A decent overview of the necessary information, but constant "video(s) then quiz" format becomes less effective the longer you work with it. Completing assignments, particularly longer assignments, often feels like guesswork instead of like the culmination of what you learned from that particular unit.”

“Tutors are condescending and make asking them any questions extremely difficult because they seem annoyed you are asking them anything at all. I paid 88 dollars and wish I used telfinstitute or mytelf, both of those were cheaper, easier to navigate, and had tutors that were helpful and happy.”

“I have taken a good bit of time to reflect on this. Overall, the course was informative. At the end of the course I do not feel I had all the information or tools to be able to apply for a teaching position. First, there was no information shared regarding a loose guideline as to where to start. For example, if I'm teaching a beginning student where do I start? Alphabet? Common words and present tense. To me, this seems an essential piece of teaching someone to teach English. Secondly, it would have been helpful to have been provided with assessment tools for students as opposed to having to search the entire internet and then determine which ones were valid, effective and helpful. Overall, I am not likely to take another course with TEFL. Given that it's hard to know what information will be shared during any course until you have paid for it and can access the curriculum. I have no teaching experience and do not feel my current certificate supports me in actually applying for work. My ultimate goal in having the certificate was so I could apply for teaching positions.”

“I found this course quite outdated. Taking on telephone teaching as if we have not been through the pandemic, Skype is hardly used now. My tutor was sometimes abrupt, I felt they looked for key words to pass, not looking at things as a whole. I was only given the tutors email when I had finished the course….had no other way to contact them throughout the course. Disappointed.”
