Lackluster, needs improvement and I feel more like a customer than a student. I am halfway through the course and I don't see why the reviews are so high and it was misleading for me to choose the program based on the high reviews. TEFL has de-motivated me from being a teacher. The so called "live chat" isnt what you think it is. Get ready for just an email saying you are in the program- and then, nothing. You wont even hear a peep from your tutor not even a friendly "Hello my name is __ and I will be your tutor" in your email. It took me forever to figure out how to contact them and once I did took days to get back to me. I felt like pulling my hair out whenever the lessons would talk about good styles of teaching in the methodology course, yet we as students are confined to the most passive and boring videos and multiple choice quizzes that had technical errors. I am struggling to learn in this repetitive and boring style of teaching its hilariously ironic. The teaching for not using the correct grammar was simply "Dont say this." Why is there not written assignments for Grammar? That part baffles me. I had more fun learning Grammar from a fifty cent thrift store book that was dated 1992 more than this! I thought there would be more engagement from the tutor and more feedback but all they do is provide the bare minimum and grade me with a pass or fail and I don't feel like i'm actually learning. Lacking rapport: I dont know who they are, I dont feel excited or engaged, therefor I dont feel comfortable. The class on the pros and cons of Skype? Really? Why so early in the lesson and part of the main course? Can we please focus on how to teach online not what to use to teach online that is so silly. I didn't go to massage school to have the teachers run an entire lesson on "What massage tables to buy." Sure its useful but I dont need to know name brand companies to pass the MBLEX. I kept getting booted off my classes and yes I tried 5 different devices, multiple browsers and all that but nothing helped. My units getting flagged for AI writing so I had to go in and manually misspell things and add grammar errors and re work sentences to sound more "human". Being a native English speaking person and experienced online teacher, it shouldn't be that hard to figure out what they are saying and asking for, but sometimes the questions in the quizzes were so confusing, not so bad I couldn't figure it out, but enough to feel like there was absolutely no consideration for non native English speaking people. What I liked: Affordable, downloading content for offline study (Whoever thought of that, very nice touch/option) the videos transcribed so I could have at least SOME interactive learning by reading along (I dont count the exercises, you might as well just replace them with flashcards). The videos ran fine and the video demonstrations were good quality. Able to re-take stuff, questions you failed were re-worded, so at least they have some mindfulness there, also a very thoughtful touch. Hate everything else. You get what you paid for. SUPER BORING. Cheap, factory lined and I feel like a product instead of a student. I ended up learning WAY MORE actual useful TEFL information talking to other TEFL teachers, interviewing students learning english, reading grammar books in my local library, and having real life practice with teaching classes. Talking to other teachers in school they were shocked at the way I was learning in this program. Time consuming and took out time from actually learning. There course organization is dinky and could use improvement. At least a more personable email guiding you through the experience would be helpful. A introduction course instead of it padding out the main courses would make it more straightforward and organized. Overall my experience with this has been isolating and lonely and this course is embarrassingly awkward. The forums are the only method and are bare bones. It could improve greatly with a online group chat or server for students to discuss with each other at least. An interactive something. One live meeting? Something. All we get is emails if that. I see my purchase for these classes as just as way to get my certificate and nothing more. Most cold and robotic online course I have ever taken. This is so boring and I am losing interest. I just keep pressing on and tell myself "I pray to never teach my students this way." TEFL.org has taught me what to NOT do by their own example. Two stars because its not a scam, it has some capacity and understanding and I have some idea of now what to expect from being a teacher. But its just going to be a shallow, dinky, unimpressive experience. It feels like its being way overrated. A 5 star experience would be with more more personable engagement and I know its possible and a realistic criticism, because I have taken other classes that have done so.
