“Generally, it was a great experience. Most of the courses were easy to understand. A few of the courses were hurried. Some of the quizzes were not easy to understand especially the stress quizzes. In some of the videos pertaining to the types of teaching methods, it wasn't easy to identify when one stage ends and when the next stage begins.”

“I took the Young Learners Course, and was happy to learn a few things to bring into the classroom when teaching. I have experience with teaching English to adults, so this course was helpful with adding more to my repretoire focused on young learners. I think something the course could improve upon is maybe adding a lesson plan unit to the course so that students will feel more prepared when it comes to do the assignments. Although I have written a few lesson plans before this, they were all for adult students. More information on how different a lesson plan should be for an adult learner versus a young learner would be helpful for future students interested in taking the course.”

“Reflection on Completing My TEFL Teaching English Course I am delighted to share that I have recently completed my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course. This is a significant accomplishment for me, especially given the challenges I faced along the way. Overcoming Challenges The journey to completing the course was not easy. Balancing my studies with other personal responsibilities made it difficult to stay consistent, and there were moments when I felt like giving up. However, my determination to achieve this goal kept me going. Support from Fellow Students One of the key factors that helped me succeed was the support I received from my fellow students. Their encouragement and willingness to help me understand difficult concepts were invaluable. Their support made a big difference and kept me motivated to push through the challenges. Course Benefits The TEFL course itself was incredibly informative and well-structured. It provided me with essential tools and techniques for teaching English, such as creating lesson plans, engaging students, and addressing diverse learning needs. The knowledge I gained from this course will undoubtedly help me in teaching English effectively. Looking Forward This qualification has opened up new opportunities for me, especially in my work at Saathi House, where I can use these skills to support non-native English speakers in improving their language abilities. “Generally the content is really good, however some of the telephone training feels dated, pre-Covid, and not adapted to ways of working globally and cultural shifts, most people now particularly in business use Teams, and even outside of business video calling is really widespread.”

“The course is fantastic value for money. The material is excellent. There is logical progression through the modules with clear learning goals. The quizzes along the way help the student focus on the key points. The mixture of video presentations and reading material helps keep the course fresh. The videos of real lessons are excellent - the course would be very much poorer without these. I did the classroom sessions online as I'm living overseas and I appreciated the flexibility of being able to do that. Those sessions were dynamic, interesting and very good for building confidence. I certainly feel much better equipped to have a go at teaching English now. My only real negative has to do with the written questions in the end-of-module exams. The tight word limits did not allow for any real creativity in the answers, nor did there seem to be any expectation of this. For example, on one occasion the question asked for a number of points (I think it was five) to be covered. I wrote a short paragraph which covered all the points but rearranged the order to make the paragraph flow naturally and avoid repetition. I put the five points in bold type to indicate where they were covered. My tutor did not accept my answer; she said I had to answer each point in turn. As the course went on I increasingly felt that all that was being sought in these mini-exams was parroting back the course material. I felt this might be appropriate for a maths or science program, but found it sad that a course that teaches ENGLISH teachers should discourage creative writing in English.”

“I learned a lot and I thought the content was good. I don't feel completely prepared to teach my own class though. I think there should be a few assignments where you have to record yourself teaching or something. I also think some of the writing assignments weren't very clear in what they wanted. I was lost for a few of them and could have used some extra guidance. I understand that I could have reached out to my tutor, but I think there could be more guidance in the modules. Overall, I think it is a good first step to teaching english as a foreign language.”

“The course is thorough and gives a good grounding in all areas and the instructional videos are helpful, however I encountered a few technical glitches and occasionally felt that the word count restriction on some assignments was arbitrary and extremely difficult to meet whilst also giving a satisfactory answer.”

“I am very proud to have taken the TEFL course in terms of knowledge it has given me a good base to start with. Since I came into the TEFL program with classroom experience under the belt learning how to understand language and teaching put together has been useful it has helped me know how to conduct my tutoring sessions and teach English effectively. I would say the 1st 2 courses were the most useful to me. However I had written down each course in a notebook to understand it.”

“Overall the course was challenging, yet excelllent. Only snag was I falied my last quiz. When it was reset, I took it and it scored me at 88% All the questions were marked as correct. When I went back through so I could let you know which questins were the problem, I hit submit my mistake. Thank God, this time it scored me at 100. The last quiz, you may want to look at.”

“I enjoyed the whole course and really learned something. So, besides paying to get a certificate which is essential for my job, I also got something to feed my brain. I'd say it was worth the tuition fee. However, as what had happened with my previous TEFL course here, I wonder if it's really a breathing human being who's checking my assignment. Isn't it just an AI given a name? Proof? Here, let me copy paste: "OK good though bear i. mind, ion the presentation stage, you need to get the sts discovering what the new phrases mean. You could ask them to match each phrase to their category, and we drill for pronunucation in the presentation stage, not the controlled practice stage." The first sentence is obvious. What is that? How do you read that? Can you? The second sentence? "You" and then "we"? You can teach me about pronunciation, but cannot spell it? My disappointment is not just about being treated with a "machine" when I paid you with real money. You are teaching English, aren't you? How can you give me feedback on English when you, even cannot write just two sentences in English correctly??”

“Great course on the whole, very in-depth and the different ways of presenting j formation were very useful- videos, written, listening etc. Catering to different learning styles. The grammar part I found quite hard going and think I will need to go over this quite a lot before I completely get it. However, that was presented very well and made as accessible as possible. I did feel, though, that I would have liked more interaction with my tutor, and before I started the course, I had been expecting that. There were times I felt a bit adrift, but didn’t feel there was any interaction other than him marking my work. Feedback was a bit difficult to understand at times, but when I asked for clarification, it wasn’t really forthcoming. There was no positive feedback, only negative. Which perhaps is just how it is- but maybe this is something that can be addressed? The course took me a lot longer than I expected, but that’s my fault! It was also much more in-depth than I thought it would be, which I’m happy about. All in all a good experience and I’m hoping I can use this qualification to start doing online teaching. Thank you.”
