“I had to rush the course towards the end as my time was expiring.”

“The course I purchased was for teaching United States of American (USA) English, but the course used British English in all the texts and had British teachers in the videos speaking with very thick British (Scottish, etc) accents. The website is slow and buggy. The texts often had very many grammitcal and spelling mistakes.”

We understand the importance of consistency in teaching English and apologise for any confusion caused by the use of British English. Although we provide American English courses we are still a UK company. Our online course content is certainly in American English, but as our staff are from the UK they will therefore use British English when communicating with students. We also take note of your comments regarding the website performance and will look into any issues to improve its functionality. “I would have preferred the course started off with basic english learners and then progressed to the pre-intermediate. I also think having videos of a classroom of 5 or 6 people, then expecting us to produce a lesson plan for 60 students is unrealistic. I did not enjoy or learn from the writing assignments at all. They were quite frustrating for me. On a lighter note, Thomas was THE BEST. Without him, I would not have completed the course. He was very patient and encouraging.”

“I found the grading system peculiar. For the written assignments, it was either 100% or fail and resubmit.”

“It has been helpful in terms of a brush up on my grammar skills and knowledge. It would be better if the tutors they use in the videos were more varied, didn't seen to read from cards and were in bigger classes. Not sure if I get a certificate as its not clear.”

“The content of the course was great and effective in preparing me for a teaching career. However, I expected more teaching practice, like a five minute teaching video and reveiving feedback. As a non-native English teacher, I found most of the content biased promoting native speakers as prefered English teachers.”

“I found the writing assessment/ support component really light on. This is the hardest section of all exams, the most time consuming for teachers and students. I think the course should be helping teachers use tools to diagnose and personalise students learning and support . There is a classroom theme across the whole course. I think getting students into self directed mode is the future of scalable teaching and learning. Would be happy to show you what we do in Literatu scribo.”

“The course was great, however you should still be able to access the course even after it expires, which is not the case. I understand not being able to do any of the assignments or quizzes. But not being able to even check a feedback on on the assignments that were submitted and not be able to go back to the course to refresh yourself is completely unacceptable.”

Please be assured that you can access your course after the expiry date passes - you simply have to reach out to the customer service team. Your course work is available indefinitely, but you would not have automatic access to this after your course expiry date passes. “TEFL should tell you beforehand that if you apply for an extension and finish beforehand you will not get a refund for it. Sometimes you wait for feedback too long. But I did enjoy the course”

“I felt that the courses were challenging and contained the basics of teaching methodology however some of the assignments were not easy to complete individually. I feel that it would have been more helpful to have experienced teachers to work with to create lesson plans. I also feel that too much emphasis was placed on theology and not enough on lesson plan creation.”

“The program platform was easy to use. However, as someone who literally went to University and received a degree in this and then has spent the last ten years teaching and managing teachers, the scoring process was not great. It honestly felt like the mentor had a required quota of rejecting a certain percentage of assignments or something. I had assignments returned for some ridiculous (to me at least) reasons and the fact you are not able to discuss anything with the mentor is frustrating. For example, I had an assignment returned once because it was deemed too advanced for the age group. However, it is literally an assignment that I & my teachers have presented to age 3 students many times as a regular part of our curriculum. My only other criticism is the word limits are a bit restrictive. Particularly if you want lesson plans to be redundant to verify understanding, there must be a slightly higher word count allowed. There was a good amount of explanation and clarification that I was forced to cut in order to submit within the target word count.”

“The classroom video lesson examples could be better. In some of them, student responses were inaudible. Overall, the course is well-structured. However, it is disappointing that on your website, currently, there are job options only for native English speakers and one online English tutor job for the company that pays the least. You advertise your course as suitable for non-native English speakers like myself to acquire the necessary skills and credentials to get employed. Therefore, I am not likely to recommend your course to anyone.”

“The course provides lots of resources and information in the field of TEFL. I think it is excellent practice for when we step into the classroom. The main complaint that I have is with the methodology course, I was was accused several times by software of plagiarism or using AI to write papers, as a college graduate that has not only managed ESL programs but has worked as an in class tutor in public schools with the ESL dept that was quite offensive. In addition, I didn’t feel comfortable or that I had convience to reach out to my tutor or staff if I needed clarification on anything. Over all, the course was suffiencient and I feel like I have a good headstart in actually leading a lesson on my own.”

“The videos are fine and easy to follow. The feedback I got from my tutor was not only completely inconsistent with how the videos teach you to teach but it was also inconsistent when I resubmitted the assignments. It was as if he wanted me to fail a few times so he kept changing the bits of the essay that were wrong. I don’t think I’m Ready to Teach after this course as it’s completely baffling. I passed so will go on to further my skills elsewhere. I already teach in a uni which made the experience even more confusing as the feedback made No sense in any teaching capacity. I Wouldn’t recommend this course unless you’re not serious about teaching abroad and just want a bit of fun”

“Useful skills! Content was a little bit dated in parts. Online learning platform was also a little bit clunky and glitchy. I look forward to exploring the utility of the TEFL certfication both locally in my home country of Australia and abroad in due course.”

“I think the grammar and methodology courses were really useful for beginners; they were detailed, easy to follow and very informative. However, I think the telephone teaching and large classroom courses should have been more detailed. I would have found it more helpful to have more example lesson plans and a video of an example lesson. This would have made the assignments easier to complete.”
