The plug-in works great and is exactly what I wanted, but the standalone app I was never able to get to work right. I do have a fairly complicated audio setup so I'm sure it's something related to that. Plug-in is all I really needed though.

I love the software but there's a few issues: It crashes quite a bit. Also the latency that systemwide induces even when bypassed is unacceptable. Tracking thorugh it even when it's suppossedly "off" is impossible. Theres many apps that create sound output devices and manage volume with actual zero latency so there's no reason why systemwide should induce latency while bypassed (it's only lowering volume in that state).

Overall I like the application and the functionality is good. It helped me to better understand my headphones and its weaknesses. I use it mostly for critical listening where I need a neutral or more balanced frequency response. However, the Reference 4 Systemwide app sometimes messes with my Mac OS, especially when die app is active in the background and I use my internal speakers it creates weird artefacts. it gives me the feeling that there is an app in the background which is causing trouble with my OS so I always close the app completely and don't let it run in the background when I don't listen with headphones. If these Bugs get fixed I would use to more often.

Overpriced. It's really just a very limited EQ at the end of the day. Other programs cost less and do much more, such as offering spatial speaker emulation. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 2 is because it has so many headphone profiles to choose from. If Sonarworks was cheaper and allowed me to load in VSTs to use with Systemwide, I'd say it's totally worth the money. Then I could use it in tandem with something like Abby Roads Studio 3, which right now I can only use in my DAW. I feel like you're pretty much paying for their reputation at this point. Maybe this was ground breaking when it came out, but now it just feels overrated.

Love the product. Well, only part of it because I´m still waiting for the microphone to arrive after more than a month. The support is also being good I have to say but due to a bad mistake from them when they shipped it I can´t enjoy my purchase yet. Great product, bad luck for me with the purchase process.

the general sound correction works great. but unfortunately the system-wide function (the reason which i upgrade to the current version) is unusable on a mac. it introduces clicks even with high latency settings.

I bought Sonarworks Headphone. I planned to use it with my DT880/770/990 but I don't really like the compensation they apply. At the end I never use it, and use others alternatives. I don't say it is bad, but not working for me.

Absolutely worth the price for the headphone version! I really didn’t think I needed DSP for my headphones as I’m acquainted with their performance. I was wrong. While my mixes aren’t bad Sonarworks revealed significant low mid coloration and missing sub bass. As a result I’ve re-mixed a few projects under this new light. A drawback is the latency. Latency is 53 ms and that’s not usable for tracking/recording. For mixing Sonarworks is tolerable though I’d be cautious if you run out of the DAW into analog as any live tracked adjustments would be off.

Hey, Karl here from Sonarworks support! Zero Latency mode is actually an option when using the Reference plugin in DAW (instead of using the Systemwide app as your DAW output). I hope this helps, have a great day!

Hello, Calibration itself works pretty fine, but sytemwide I always get trouble with drvers in DAW (Cubase and Reason, both latest) soundcard Fireface 802, cracklin in low latencies ... br Gerald

Bought Reference 4 Headphone & found it very enjoyable & well done. But then — YIKES! Systemwide seized control of all sound preferences & whether or not I unchecked the box for it to do that I couldn’t get it to play nice with my Apogee Duet interface & output any sound. Finally, with some trickery, got back control & sound out through Duet.

Decent answers, but I still had to pay for an upgrade due to OS incompatibility. I can’t blame only Apple for this, and in other industries this is called an externality. I believe some responsibility to people who have already given you money is owed, and I don’t know that I would continue to support a company like this in the future. Nothing against their employee.

The software itself is simple and pretty easy to use. It sounds great. It’s like basically having a second pair of headphones or monitors that you can toggle on/off that will give you a perfectly flat response. So valuable when it comes to mixing. My big issue is that my audio interface (Audient Id14) doesn’t get along with it. It’s constantly crashing. Sometimes it’s so much trouble it ends my day early. Hopefully compatibility updates fix this in the future.

It has flattened original frequency response from my headphones. However if I use it 100% wet, the tracks sound very unnatural, even those released by professionals.

the application does its duty, the quality of my productions has improved a lot thanks to it. But my overall assessment is acceptable because the application is not fully exploited for Mac PCs. Acoustic glitches are often created and I am forced to close and reopen the DAW. Often the same thing also happens with browsers while surfing the internet. If you solve these problems the application would be perfect.

I'm having a problem getting audio thru SW headphone system. Tech support has replied and I'm still trying to figure out why no sound. They do respond so I'll get it working.

Overall it is useful software but can be a pain to control, which seems to line up with "acceptable" to me. The EQ curve is useful for balancing my headphones. Things I don't need often, like the EQ curve, are front and center in the UI. Things I need often, like adjusting the sample rate, or other audio settings, are harder to get to. Changing the sample rate is painful since it requires changing my interface, changing windows, changing sonarworks, restarting the "audio engine", testing and maybe restarting the "audio engine" again.

This software doesn't like my ASIO drivers from my soundcard. The direct x me drivers work OK but introduce lag into my mixes. Not ideal. I would be much happier if it just worked under all these circumstances without having to change so many settings. Having said all that, my mixes are sounding much better and the main reason is this software. So overall... buggy but important

Overall good software. However I have no idea why latency builds up over time using Systemwide. I thought this was meant to be no latency - little bit confused about that. It's just a pain to keep having to restart the plugin when I get noticeable latency. I know the solution is to use the plugin but when your resampling within your DAW you have to keep bypassing it.

When enabled, this product helps my headphones give me a more accurate picture of the music I'm working on. The part I am not satisfied with has to do with the integration of reference 4 software. When I use system wide, it messes up the output / input assignments on my laptop, it often doesn't work with Logic Pro X requiring a reboot, and I don't like using it as a master bus plugin because it gives a false output dB reading and I have to remember to disable it before exporting audio.

I bought a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones with individual calibration. While the sound of my headphones with the calibration running in Reference works as advertised, my pair of ATH-M50x is really bad without the calibration. I bought the ATH-M50x based on Sonarworks' review of them, but the headphones I received don't match the review at all. My headphones display a significantly worse frequency response curve and channel imbalance than what the review states. For instance, on my left channel, the frequency response difference between the bass and low mids is up to a whopping 21 db, while the right channel is still bad, but a lot flatter. It feels as if you were half deaf on one ear. When I wanted to exchange my headphones for a less flawed pair, I was told that no such exchange was possible, only a refund. I was also told that Sonarworks' review, which is from 2015, is no longer representative, allegedly because Audio-Technica changed their production process, and that the problems I see with my pair have become quite common since then. While the quality of any particular pair of headphones is obviously not within Sonarworks' control, it is at the very least grossly irresponsible of Sonarworks to knowingly leave online an outdated review of their best-selling headphones, based on which many people make the decision to get these headphones. Either update the review and show honestly how much worse the M50x are than the review claims, or remove the review. I, for one, am not happy with my purchase.
