I paid for upgrade which essentially adds simple parametric eq to Reference program. In exchange I received buggy software that lacks even function to copy eq curves between plugin and systemwide version. Good idea but weak execution. So far this is like Cyberpunk in audio world I know you can do better Sonarworks.

Update: Marco sorted the issue for me having seen my 1* review. Thanks Marco! Initial reply to my issue had not helped as it did not acknowledge the problem with their web account site but the latest reply with Marco manually inputting my new key has done so. Faith restored. Bit of a pain to upgrade though, all told. Got there in the end. Hurrah! Customer re-gained. Original: Shockingly poor. Tried to upgrade from Reference for Headphones to Sound ID for Headphones having actually wanted to upgrade to the full Reference 4 software (but couldn't do so as no longer for sale). Couldn't get an upgrade code as the new website account doesn't recognise my earlier purchase and so won't generate an upgrade code for the new software. Utterly useless tech help that didn't appreciate the issue. Customer lost.

A great bit of software that does it's job incredibly well, but with a few super annoying bugs, for example, when left for a while the Sound ID virtual driver on Windows disappears. This wouldn't be too much of an issue, within the reference software there's a "restart playback engine" option, however selecting this option causes the software to crash and shutdown, every single time. APO drivers are completely broken, they've failed to work on multiple interfaces that I've tried, and although everything still works without, it'd be so much easier if this was fixed. MIDI control functionality is also nowhere to be found, as it was removed for causing problems with the software. None of these problems are dealbreakers, just pretty annoying! Time will tell whether Sonarworks fixes them or not, if they do then this review will easily go up to 4 or 5 stars.

Don't know what to think about the Sonarworks SoundID. On headphones it works fine. I bought a calibrated set of HD650 from Sonarworks, and with SoundID they sound well-balanced. When it comes to speakers, it's another story. I have strictly and several times followed their calibration process with their own calibrated reference microphone. Yet the sound I get is thin and uninspiring to listen to. It is certainly not the same frequency balance that I get in the headphones. Furthermore their stand-alone driver for Windows reports errors all the time (using asio). In reality I can only use the plugin version.

SoundID is super buggy on MacOS but I guess at least you're trying to fix it so that's fine.

First, how come that Cubase gives an error on loading the updated version of Sound ID by saying it is a 32 bit plugin? Second: Can you please add Austrian Audio X65 to the profile section

Im giving 3 out of 5 because of customer service Responding to emails take way way way to long than normal , you have to work on this , plus responding to emails is not detailed and accurate as expected, other than that sonarworks software is perfect 5 out of 5 for the software and 3 out of 5 for the support and customer service

Already a Reference 4 user. Had several trouble with the software, and it didn'tget any better with the new soundID for me. Pro Tools, Antelope Discrete8 and Sonarworks don't like each other... But I keep using SID, it is a good studio reference, and my mixes translate much better. One feature I hoped to be present in the new software for me was being able to direct the correction to the hardware output of my audio interface. I've got a virtual mixer on it I can't use with correction, because it passes the computer... Maybe a future update? Cheers every one, grts from Belgium. Peter

Great plug in but the new update makes it less user friendly. GUI is not very well thought out. Many of the added listening references are just...well, bad. I prefer Sonarworks 4

I've used Reference 4 and now SoundID Reference for a good while and while the overall premise and base functionality of the software is good, I am not totally satisfied. Bug fixes and feature updates happen way too rarely and the dev team still has not implemented any requested features like keyboard shortcuts for switching profiles.

Works nice, but doesn’t slave its sample frequency very well to the frequency of Protools projects. Lots of restarts.

Huge improvements to the software! I'm loving the EQ inside of SoundID. It's still quite buggy at the moment though...

So, this review has two sides; one general regarding Sonarworks as a product and one regarding my recent purchase (the upgrade from the former version). Regarding the first point, I think Sonarworks Reference is a fantastic product. It truly changes the game of your listening environment with minimal intervention in your studio. The results are tangible and very useful. Though the price is not negligible for a home studio owner, the impact on the recording and mixing is so great that it overweights the cost. Now, to the second point; I was actually quite disappointed that I had to pay almost 100 euro to "upgrade" from the former version I just bought a few months ago. This really felt like a "it's Covid times and we need to fix our accounting numbers"... I think at least a grace time of 12 months for people who had previously purchased the product would have been adequate. You really don't have to do these things to be a successful company. The product speaks for itself. And don't say that "I got new features for the extra bucks spent", as I really don't use any of them, but as a principle I want my software to be up to date. Avoid this mistake next time. An advice from who has been a high executive involved in customer service in large multinational corporations.

This review is for the SoundID upgrade and does not reflect my experience with the fundamental functionality. Reference 4 was AMAZING and remains amazing in SoundID Reference. The main hope I had for this upgrade was that I wouldn't have to do the car check anymore. Sadly, the "Translation Check" feature isn't really helpful. Even professional, well-produced mixes sound terrible on nearly all the targets. The Custom Target feature is just an EQ. It would be more helpful if we had the ability to produce and use our own impulse responses for Custom Targets. The other issue is that when you first open it, it seems like you have to re-do all your room measurements. Which is what I did. Only later did I realize It DOES actually open your old Reference 4 files, but you have to know that ahead of time then open them manually. Honestly? I don't feel like anything useful was added in this upgrade. If I didn't need to have current software to wait for M1 compatibility I'd be very disappointed at having spent money on this. Hopefully it improves with time.

new version sound ID = cannot use the speaker test function, support has still not got back to me , the product is not that good for the money , this is after 4 years of use . i tend to use it at 50% correction and now only on anything 800 hz down , as it seems to mess up the dynamics and brightness of a track . wish we could apply and output eq without using correction- product still has a way to go before gaining a great reputation. i thing they rush things as well in the design and release phase.- and do not test properly.

It's a new product, i think it can be more solid/fool proof. but i love it, would i do it again? well reference 4 for sure, SoundID.. i'ts the upgrade price, it was low enough. otherwise i would ask my money back and hold back for a while. But i do believe that sonarworks is a great company, good support. love it!
