“We bought 5 blinds and only kept one - first blind was very difficult to operate with a pole after installation. Had the others so carried on with installation but the cassette didn’t fit the second window (despite codes matching) so I gave up after 4 attempts to fix it and returned the remaining four blinds. I had to pay £35 for delivery but did get my refund pretty quickly (although from a different company name). Consequently gone on to buy Velux blinds and they are definitely worth the extra money!”

“We bought a double honeycomb roof lantern blind. Received it in 10 days. All well explained online how to fit. Made well. Work really well and we can walk on our extension floor again. Due to the size of our blind it did need 2 people to fit but it was simple enough to do. It wasn’t cheap, but what is these days??? The company are extremely efficient and helpful and the samples came really quickly to aid choice. Would highly recommend Skylightblinds Direct. It was a pleasure doing business with them.”

“Impossible for an elderly person to install and not made clear at the point of purchase. Any physical help with installation costs a fortune in my case up to £600 I would not advise you to buy this product unless you have organised help which is costly. The non electric version is very difficult to manipulate especially if the lantern roof area is large and you are not a young person. You have been warned. Unfortunately not many manufacturers make a product like this so they have cornered the market and can do what they like. It is a shame about these problems because the blind works well and certainly keeps off heat and sun but I’ve no idea how you would keep it clean so that is going to be a future problem. There is a problem solving information sheet provided to help any problems after installation like the blind flopping at the edges which does happen but very difficult for the lay person to follow and difficult without help from a professional, particularly for the elderly. In summary don’t buy this unless you are young very competent DIY person with help from another young competent DIY person or builder.”

We’re sorry that you found the installation and operation more difficult than expected. These are sold as DIY self-fit blinds, and larger blinds can require two people to install. We would just like to clarify that we certainly wouldn't say these blinds are only suitable for younger people. We have customers in their 70s and beyond who successfully measure and fit their own blinds. It really comes down to an individual's DIY ability, confidence and mobility rather than age. Anyone who isn't comfortable with DIY, regardless of their age, may prefer to have some assistance. In your particular case, we did recommend the fitter that we use, but you told us that you preferred to use your own builder, which of course we completely respected. We provide detailed measuring and fitting instructions, videos and troubleshooting information, and we're always available to help with fine-tuning. With a larger manual blind, however, we would always recommend having another person available to help with the installation. We're genuinely pleased that despite the difficulties you experienced getting everything installed, the blind is now working well and keeping the heat and sun out, which is ultimately what it was designed to do.
