“Better and sooner interaction may have improved the chances of retrieving the data I wanted to retrieve. Unfortunately, the holiday season so was handed backwards and forwards between people which lead to delays and the irreversible degradation of the storage. Disappointedly only recovering 30% of my data.”

Hi Darron, You are correct that "better and sooner interaction may have improved the chances" but the percentage would have been minimal. The reality is the SSD was already degraded, and encrypted. The process to image does not write data, Not until the decrypted volume was accessible could it be cloned sector by sector, the issue is the most used sectors are generally where the most used data is and this can affect the quality of the recovery when it comes to SSD which are building up errors the longer they are switched on. This is a very large SSD with nearly a billion sectors For transparency I have published the case notes redacting some information for security / data protection. Please be assured there may still be a possibility of improvement of the recovery in the future when some control features for this particular Hynix 512GB SSD comes available. This may be developed and ready for in production use at some point. The lesson to learn is that SSD are time consuming to recover and from first use they are degrading. Yours had degraded severely and continues to degrade every time it is switched on. "Hard drive from a Laptop, no longer booting gets as far as starting windows, Hard drive is not recognised when connected to another computer and can not be accessed." In this case the the 500gb WD Blue after 4 years of use in a laptop had suffered enough knocks to setup the drive to fail. Multiple issue from the spindle beginning to seize and head crashes causing platter scratches meant it was not possible to get a 100% recovery but by targeting just the priority data it was possible to recover what was needed. "hi we have a seagate HD 1000gb ,the cable was damaged so we got a new and now when we plug it in it comes up with a fault error code 49244 could not mount "seagate"{com.apple.diskmanagement.dis enter error 49244}" After 6 years of use the Samgate Momentus degraded affecting the ability to access the drive and enter the password to the file vault protection. R3 Engineers were able to convert the drive from USB to SATA create a good image which accepted the password provided and allow access to the data.

Many thank s for the review of R3 Data Recovery Ann Your enquiry "external hard drive failed. failure occurred during copying and reorganising folder data whilst copying photograph files from laptop" The external drive was actually a laptop drive in a casing which had sustained a drop and sever platter damage. The first rebuild was successful but had over 5000 damaged files out of 360,000. An additional rebuild with a fresh donor head stack further improved the recovery reducing the damaged files to around 1100 but crucially recovering what was needed.

Thank you for the review Iain I can understand why you would see the cost of recovering a WD80EFZX-68UW8N0 but it was actually very cost effective and a fraction of what it would have cost to recover the whole RAID. You were unfortunate to lose one 8TB drive (SATA 128MB Cache WD80EFZX) in a RAID 0 array of 6 identical disks in a QNAP NAS Had it been a RAID 5 the loss of 1 disc would not have affected the data. Hi Will, Following your enquiry "My backup internal hard drive has failed .Its not detected by the OS. I have removed it and put in an external cradle , tried on 2 other PCs nothing." Cradle is working fine with other spare drives . One of the six heads in the drive was preventing the drive from reading and needed a head stack replacement. Fortunately the drive was not over filled and all but one file was recovered fully from over half a million files. Folders - 81713 Files - 571644 ( 1050.03 Gb) Normal Files - 571643 Problem Files - 1 R3 Data Recovery are constantly recovering these Seagate Barracuda and carry many revisions in stock, however this particular donor was sourced from another supplier. From your enquiry "Currently not sure on manufacturer (likely to be Seagate) and capacity (laptop is not with me but will find out soon as possible). Glad R3 could be of service with your Western Digital 2TB WD20SDZW-11JJ8S0 "I've had the problem diagnosed as a broken laser platter so I need the data rescuing please. The data is fine. I've been told to stress that clean air is needed for the recovery. If I could have a quote, that would be great. Thanks" Several months after the initial enquiry at Christmas we we received the drive and sourced the matching donor. The rebuild was completed successfully but the file system had been severely damaged from the previous attempts to gain access to the drive. Despite the initial file system showing very little data it was found that most of the data over 60gb was in good condition although unlinked . Folders - 684 Files - 15078 ( 8.72 Gb) Normal Files - 13820 Problem Files - 1258 The recovery although successful and done to the highest possible success rate, was compromised by the numerous software recovery attempts and is why we always recommend to our prospective clients to not take risks with a failing drive if the data is important.
