Simple search finder but could do with more filters - wanted to add 2 drivers to car hire excess cover had to look into details of each company which was a real chore!

All policies include cover for additional drivers, with the amount (whether 3, 4, 5 or unlimited) is the 4th point down under details on our site - In any case, it is always important you read insurance information/documents prior or once purchased, so you ensure it meets your requirements. If however you were looking for a policy that allows more than one driver to hire independently of each other, we have the option to filter these policies out on the results page, which would therefore show 'family' or 'dual lead driver' policies, and hopefully you were able to find this if needed. Hence why it is a great idea to have a car hire excess insurance policy! Whether right or wrong, if a car hire company charge you an excess for damage to the vehicle, these policies will work perfectly in reimbursing you for that, following the correct claims procedure. The Question, 'Did you hire the vehicle in your country?' is unclear. If you hire via the internet in the UK for a car in another country, should you answer Yes or No? Yes i hired it in the UK OR No I hired it in another country but from the UK.

Kevin, Thank you for your feedback, Following your communication earlier this week, we reviewed the information provided around the question 'Will you hire in your country of residence?' and have acted upon this, adding further information and hopefully making it clearer for our customers when running a quote. To confirm, it refers to whether you will be driving the vehicle you are hiring in the country where you reside, not whether or not you have actually arranged the hire in your country of residence. I would find the comparisons more useful if they contained more pertinent information. It was only after purchasing the insurance and reading the polcy schedule from carhireexcess.com that I was made aware that all costs would be paid upfront by me and that I would then have to reclaim these. This was not my preference.

An excellent service, but always check the renewal price again before accepting an auto renewal service as it can be 33% higher!

Policy ok, but far more expensive for 8 days than previously paid for annual policy. Annual policy not offered to non UK residents.

Andrew, Thank you for your review, You should find several insurance policies available for Non-UK residents via our comparison site here - https://www.moneymaxim.co.uk/car-hire-excess-insurance, and certainly annual policies. Also, you tend to find at around 16/18 days of hire a year where you will find single trip policies more expensive than an annual policy, which of course in terms of premium, you may then wish to choose an annual policy, which should be on offer. I found the site good to compare the upfront costs of policies and the basics that they offer. I would like to see the ability to include potential additional costs, like admin fees for changing address etc.

In regards to the Car Hire Excess Insurance (which is the area that we are referring to) , compared to many other types of insurance, the good news is there isn't really many additional costs as such when it comes to Car Hire Excess. We show the main features of each policy in a chart form on the results page and further information for each policy under the more information button. Always important though to refer to the policy document and terms and conditions for the full detail of course. Good value insurance but was invalidated since i purchased the insurance after i got the car. This should be made clearer before purchase.

Thank you very much for your review. I am sorry you feel we have not made it clear that you cannot buy a policy part way through a rental, but the reality is that we do try very hard to prevent this from happening. Before you are provided with any results from our site we ask you to confirm just three short statements, one of which reads: 'You understand that policies must be taken out in the lead driver's name and purchased before you pick up the car.' We have looked into the details you ran with us on the 4th May - in which you stated that you were planning to collect the car on the 5th. The particular insurer you bought your policy from would not have allowed you to purchase the policy either had you tried to put in a date the same or before the day you were trying to buy a policy from. They also make it clear in all their documentation that the car must not be in your possession when you bought the car. The reason for this is that if a policy is instigated after the hire period has started the insurer does not know if accidental damage has occurred before or after the policy came into force. Unfortunately some people have an accident which will result in a bill from the car hire company and only then buy a policy, attempting to make a claim for damage that has already occurred. I hope this explains the situation, but I am sorry the policy did not work for you on this occasion. Mark Bower Managing Director

We do have a number of Car Hire Excess Insurers and yes, many do cover just UK residents, but we do have some insurers that also cover Non UK residents. But, it has changed many customers views when hiring a car and the huge amounts of monies that can be saved now when purchasing a Car Hire Excess Insurance Policy, when comparing to the prices that can be charged at the Car Hire Desk . So maybe not life changing, but can save you a considerable amount of money and provide you peace of mind whilst hiring your car. Hi Phillip Many thanks for your comments. The companies we can offer to South African residents is restricted, as we will only include results from companies who are regulated and authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority here in the UK. It might be that in your country there is an local insurer offering a cheaper rate. I have done a search myself, and failed to find anything close to our prices yet, but we will write and see who you found - if they meet our threshold requirements we will contact them to see if they wish to join the panel. Obviously the cost of the policy we displayed - at around £15 for your trip is about 20% of the cost of buying this cover at the desk, so still excellent value! Mark Bower Managing Director

We are about to launch a new version of our Excess Insurance Comparison tool which will include filters for Car Hire up to 7 seats, 9 seats, Van and Motor home and this will all be achieved through just one enquiry. Within the comparison process, will also be Car Club and Minibuses up to 15 seats. At this time, we do cover all the areas above, but via a separate comparison tool / search. So we are not that far away I'm pleased to say in delivering this further enhancement.Once launched, please feel free to kindly review and your further feedback would be really appreciated. In regards to Motor Home Excess Insurance, the insurers on our site can provide an Excess Insurance Policy to cover the excess on the areas of Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Protection (but do not provide the main insurances of Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Protection) and the Motor Home Excess Insurance policies also cover the areas that are not typically covered in your hire, like the windscreens, motor home glass, roof, tyres and under body.
