The comparison basically comes up with 2 types of surveyor. Type 1. Cheap quotes from national companies who have a list of surveyors around the country, if you buy one of these you will not know the name (or experience or proof of local knowledge or personal reviews) of the actual surveyor so you are in the hands of the company chosen. Type 2. Pay more and choose a reputable local firm with named surveyors who you can assess for suitability. There are other surveyors that the site doesn't list so this site is a good starting point but to look at other options might be a good idea too. Both of the two types yielded competitive prices, naturally Type 2 cost more than Type 1. But it is a small difference in terms of the overall costs of buying a property.

I wasn't looking for a building surveyor. It was a structural surveyor I was looking for to examine a bridge. I have found one throught your site.

Pleasant experience dealing with the surveyor. It’s disappointing that as a layman I believed that the surveyor would not need further referrals to extra surveys on structure and dampness ?

The survey was thorough and covered all aspects of the house, highlighting any areas of concern where necessary.

Helpful comments by the surveyor pointing out things that needed to be addressed, something we could have easily missed.

Used this website to find a surveyor. It was very quick and worked really well. I used one of the surveyors who made contact and was delighted with the speed and quality of the work carried out.

The website was great to find local surveyors with all prices and services displayed. Unfortunately we have been contacted several times a day by the companies that now have our details.

Great idea and we are using our second choice who have been extremely efficient so far - survey booked within a week of us contacting them. However, we were originally approached by another firm as a result of us making the enquiry through 'Local Building Surveyors' and were advised that their surveyor would shortly be in the area - that got our attention. We then submitted their required form and were told that the property was out of their catchment area, even though we had provided a postcode in the initial enquiry. Beware of this practice!

I was able to find a surveyor who gave me a good prompt service with a level 2 housebuyers report and valuation for a reasonable price. The survey was carried out within a fortnight and the report produced within 5 working days, even including an early draft in advance. Of the valuation.

Really easy to use with instant replies. Survey booked in straight away. Communication very easy and straightforward. Only negative was that I was contacted by companies other than the ones I had chosen to contact from those recommended, presumably having been triggered by searching on the site. This created unnecessary stress in my opinion.
