I placed an order for shutters in April 2021. Sales visit went well, site survey follow quickly, detail order initiated. Fitter told me that shutters are custom made in China then shipped over so the usual 6 weeks timeline might be longer. I asked why they weren’t made in UK and he replied: more expensive and people won’t pay the prices. I said that if it meant quicker service I would pay it ! Since April, the first call advised me that the container ship was held up by the blocking of the Suez Canal - well, it was an unusual event so I accepted the delay. The next call told me that the ship had docked at Felixstowe but there was a problem with the container paperwork so the ship was going to off-load on the Continent and the container would be driven to UK, would take about 4 weeks to get to their depot. At the beginning of September, having heard nothing, I sent a firm but querying e-mail asking when exactly would the shutters be fitted as the summer was almost over now ! Writhing 5 days I received a phone call telling me an installer would be in touch. I heard nothing. Finally, after me sending a really strong shot across the bow e-mail weekend 25/26 September, I received an apologetic reply yesterday saying the service was below what they expected and that the installer would be in touch. 7pm last night (Monday) I get a text from the installer asking in Wednesday morning would suit - I of course agreed, mentally shifting my own plans to accommodate, less than 30 mins later, new text, would Thursday work too, if so will confirm Tuesday. I of course confirmed either day, just let me know soonest. Today, Tuesday, 4pm I text to get confirmation which day, only to be told ‘can’t make Wednesday’ I replied, ‘so see you Thursday then’. I have had no acknowledgement so the fitting is up in the air again ! I suspect both the Sales staff and the fitters are doing their best within the company guidelines, but if they are pressured to do too many jobs within each working day, impacted by travelling time between jobs that is made worse by all these 20mph speed limits and local traffic calming measures, they resort to doing hasty work that ends up below standard. I certainly wish that I had read customer comments before, but know the company had been around since the 70s and seem to be popular, I decided to go with them expecting them to be experienced - my bad ! I hope that my shutters will be getting installed soon, the pandemic, Brexit, petrol shortages, all of these things can be used as excuses, but reputations stand and fall only by the results and how a customer feels at the end of the process, if there are no recommendations made then new customers will not be obtained and it is the company that loses out in the end. All we can do as customers is spread our dissatisfaction far and wide to drive them to make changes for the better ! Good luck everyone !

Interesting to see that I have the same complaint as other customers on here. Ordered shutters in May. It was only after I paid the 50% deposit required that I was advised it was a five month delay for fitting. I’ve now received a message to say it is a further six weeks and that up to 10,000 orders are held up. Apparently because of Brexit? I rang customer services. Particularly Unhelpful. Apparently they do not have managers to speak to! And I was told what would be the point when the manager would say the same as the advisor I spoke to. What appalling customer service. Hillary is a holding onto a huge number of deposits. This cannot be right.

Disgusting customer service - cancelled twice on the day of fitting, this time half an hour after the fitter was supposed to be there and we’ve got 4 young kids to try and get to sleep with no coverings on our windows. Attitude of customer service was awful and vague as to when the fitter would eventually come. Feel really let down!

Ordered some shutters last January, went with them because they had fitted some before for us. They said it would be August… a longtime but agreed. Days before fitting told that the shutters wouldn’t be in the country till September. So earliest fitting would be October!!! Still not given a date so contacted them to complain, twice, no response. They are either busy or as I suspect having numerous complaints. Don’t order from them. Wish I had gone with a local reliable firm.

A sales rep visited and presented the product on July 5. We received a quote on July 7, and set an appointment for a surveyor to visit on August 4, for taking dimensions and ensuring fit. At that survey, we mutually agreed that Hillary's did not offer a product suitable for our application. The surveyor said he would initiate a refund of our deposit (1,525 GBP). That was on August 4th. Today, September 7, I have yet to see the refund on my credit card! On August 6th, I received an email stating it would take up to 10 WORKING DAYS to see the refund. Why so long? It only took 1 day for the charge to appear. Surely the company isn't so inefficient that it takes 2 weeks to process this. Or maybe they have an intended "float" in their financial management plan? Anyway, the two weeks pass, then another week, then 4 weeks, with no refund posting. I sent an email on September 4, asking for an update. I received an email on September 6, advising that they had a "system error" but they are re-issuing the credit, AND THAT IT WILL TAKE ANOTHER 5-7 WORKING DAYS! I replied with a very terse complaint that this is ridiculous, and that they should immediately process this and possibly make amends for my troubles. Crickets. No reply. No courtesy call. Have they decided they do not want me as a customer since I cancelled an order? Do they think I wouldn't tell anyone about my experience? So, I called their "Customer Service" department today, September 7. Total frustration. The agent refused to let me speak to a supervisor or manager and, incredibly, said I needed to go back to their website and submit a "formal complaint", as if my calls and emails were not enough for anyone there to see that I AM COMPLAINING! Absolutely the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE possible. Someone needs to send the organization back to customer service 101. They need remedial education. The CEO should ask the Financial Manager why he is holding customers' money like this. Buy something at John Lewis. Take it back. Get a refund posted to your credit card THE SAME DAY, one day later at worst. This isn't rocket science. It's thievery.

Awful service.. after 3 no-shows without any notification, I finally got my shutters installed - which was measured wrongly and fitted very badly - this all happened back in Mar 20 and since then I have been chasing customer service and with all the false promises that somebody will come and do the fitting properly - issue still remains unresolved - worst ever service - don't recommend!

It was unfortunate that Hilarys had supply issues and we had to wait from April until August for our awning to be fitted. However my complaint is about the aftercare service. After a few uses of the awning the mechanism stopped working. I have tried to fix using Utube with no success, so I contacted Hilarys customer service. After several calls to them I have had no contact from the promised fitter- it has been over 2 weeks now. When I I ordered the awning I was informed that the comparative high cost was because of the superb aftercare!!!

Shutters should have been fitted today (1st Sept) but fitter failed to turn up. Rang Hillary's to be told there was a delay and fitter would ring in 2 weeks to sort another date! What!! How is this acceptable??!! They have had our money since April and balance paid in July. Where is the customer service? They have said they rang 3 weeks ago to inform of the delay but this is not the case and there is no record of a call from them. I fully accept that delays can and do happen, but to leave the customer completely in the dark with no communication is disgraceful and unprofessional. I have lost all trust and I will never ever use them again.

Light comes through the frame and sides of the "black out" blinds. Hillarus not interested as they get your money up front.

The worst service ever If I could give less than one star I would. We had a really lovely man come to do the fitting and price up curtains and a voile. After a week we decided to go for the voiles and not the curtains as the fabric didn’t quite fit with our plan for the room. I rang and spoke to an advisor to order the voiles. When the man came to fit them he told me they had no track. I am unsure as to what they thought they were going to use to affix to the wall but there you go. The man said he had a spare one but in measuring it he found it would not fit. He then had to go to buy a track and we had to pay him back otherwise we would have had a 2 week wait for a track to be ordered and paid for by us. I put in a complaint explaining I was happy with the fitter but not the company. There response was to ring the fitter - ask him to explain what he happened (I had already explained this to them) them to insult me by ringing back and explaining to me the situation (agin that I had already explained to them). I them rang to complain about the advisor I spoke to and got through to a very helpful lady who told me a manager would ring me back. Instead I got the original advisor contacting me by email and insulting me yet again and offering a voucher to use on a future purchase. I could not believe they thought I would use them again in the future. I don’t normally like to complain and on other sites (trip advisor and such like) I tend to only write honest and mostly positive reviews. However on this occasion I was so appalled by the poor service I wanted to warn others. To be clear Hilary’s quoted over £650 for voiles without a track to fit to the wall. I fortunate only paid a fraction of this but even so still feel I have been ripped off. I will never use them again and urge others not to either.

Over promise under deliver. Were told things on sales visit which turned out to be untrue. Weren't given information which was required by the fitters. After alterations to agreement fitters pressed for a "go ahead" with no time to consider options. Day of fitting, curtains couldn't be found? No update given until chased. Don't waste your time.

Absolute rubbish. Don't waste your money on this company's products. Prior to the pandemic we had some bedroom curtains " fitted" ( depending on how one defines the verb 'fit' - some degree of professionalism perhaps, care, skill ?). Anyway, they never really closed easily, despite being told by the 'fitter' that it would get easier. It never did . Of late they have become much worse. I emailed Hillary's ( established, reputable company, surely there would not be an issue ...) Ah, alas, there was . We were two months beyond the guarantee ( various reasons - big pandemic for one) meant we didn't contact them until recently ) and, up to press, they are not prepared to rectify a fault that was there since fitting . Attempts to get the staff to pass the complaint to director level gave met with no gain. . Best part of £600 , wonderful. We also spent a lot more on some blinds a few years back ... Hey, guess where we WON'T be buying from again? Go elsewhere.

We had an appointment booked and after altering my arrangements the salesmen left a message that he had double booked and was not coming. Did not even phone, and the message was left 1 hour after the beginning of the agreed time. Phoned the office very annoyed, the did not Care. Don’t use this company.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE from Daniel Kilkenny, who covers Paignton to Dawlish in Devon. Super polite, friendly, tidy, considerate of what the client would like and helps if the client is unsure of what they would like in terms of positioning, colour and texture. Not at all pushy. Daniel even rebooked us in when we had to self isolate. He has gone above and beyond by giving us an appointment on his day off so we didn’t have a much longer wait. Thank you Daniel, Chris and Tammy

Terrible customer service I ordered blinds from Hillary’s due to the reputation they have. (Otherwise you can get the same blinds for half the price). The fitter arrived and was professional and polite. Unfortunately during the fitting he damaged two of my walls in two separate rooms. He offered to repair the walls but this was not acceptable to me as he isn’t a builder. (Chunks of plaster was missing from one of the walIs) I questioned the price at point of payment but was told he would not reduce the price. I took the matter up with the complaints department and have never been met with such rudeness and unprofessionalness in my life!!!! The initial lady on the telephone offered me £30 as compensation which I was quite frankly insulted by. I was then passed to the supervisor who was ignorant and rude!!! She stated that damage should be expected when blinds were being fitted and she was not remotely interested in my concerns. She was ignorant and rude! Eventually I was offered £50 as compensation. Otherwise it was my issue and I should get two quotes for there mistake!!! I do not have the time or energy to get these quotes and have emailed them stating I will accept the £50. Please please please reconsider before you purchase products from Hillary’s. You would expect some form of customer care due to there reputation but you honestly get nothing in return!!! I have used them previously but they have now lost a customer for life!!!

We have had 16 sets of shutters fitted in the house and the quality is satisfactory. We have ordered a further 4 sets of shutters for an outbuilding and at the time of ordered Hillarys explained there would be a delay but committed to a fitting date 6 months away. The date has since moved by 2 months and they are now claiming the only fitter available has been pinged by the app and is unable to work. They are not able to provide a new date. The last time we had such an experience with a housewares seller the company shortly thereafter went into administration. Whilst the product is satisfactory I would be very concerned about paying any money to Hillarys at this time as it would appear the company is not able to meet its obligations and you could loose your money. Customers Services are not interested as they have taken payment.

so so poor, had £2000 worth of blinds fitted this year, asked for one small repair. Cancelled 4 times and today I got a text to say he was busy selling curtains and wouldn't be here until 3pm. I text back saying this wasn't fair. He then called said he wasn't coming at all and suggested I raise a complaint. Gareth you need to be ashamed of the customer service you offered. 4 times repair still not done.

This is an update to a previous review and advice for everyone to avoid this company at all costs. They are only interested in your money. I ordered blinds for my new build house at the very start of November 2020. I was told within 6 weeks for my blinds to be fitted. However this date kept getting pushed back due to covid restrictions.i thereafter looked at the covid guidelines which state you can have work done if it effects the saftey or security of your home. My wife and I were both front line workers out and all our belongings were visible to see. Furthermore we had no privacy as both our bedroom and our child's are overlooked by a public path and many other houses. I explained this to Hillarys and they insisted they would not fit blinds. I took it upon myself to contact the government direct to explain my scenario who replied that it was fine to have my blinds fitted as it did effect the privacy and security of my home.i sent this email to Hillarys who still refused to come fit my blinds. As they were not fulfilling their contract I asked for my money back and they refused. At this stage I had enough so contacted my credit card company for advice and they raised a dispute upon what I told them. In the maintime in march I again contacted Hillarys to offer a solution. I asked to have the blinds couriered to me and I would fit myself. This way they kept the money and I finally had blinds. Not ideal as I had paid a lot of money for fitting but I really needed these blinds. The lady I spoke to thought that was a great solution but that it would invalidate my warranty. Again I said I'm happy with that as I just want the blinds. I was told management would need to agree with this solution and they would get back to me. They then got back to me and said they couldn't do this either. Surely this is wrong. I had paid a lot of money for this product and they are refusing to give it to me. At this point I recontacted my credit card company and they said I was in the right and they issued me my money back. Since then Hilary's have been pestering my from their debt recovery team looking for me to pay for a product they failed to give me. They are also threatening court action which I have already sought legal advice on and given that the government allowed fitting and they refused and the fact that I offered a solution of delivering blinds to me and they refused that it was actually Hillarys that never lived up to their contract. I just want to warn as many as possible. Stay away. I have never experienced bad service like this in my life and I will continue to spread the word to save people the headache of dealing with this company

I would not give any stars if this was an option, arranged a fitting date for my blind, installer did not turn up for installation. Called Hillary,s office who made contact with the installer only to be told by office he will be out the fit the blind several days after original appointment. No apology given for non attendance. No discussion on whether the new appointment was convenient for me. Very poor customer service. Will not use this company again!!!!!!
