“Not as tasty as we had hoped but good”

“Capon was absolutely lovely. Only one issue- the skin at the neck end had been damaged so couldn’t use that end for one of the stuffings. Delivery as said and all else fine”

“Our herb fed turkey was delicious. It needed a little longer than in your instructions, but was moist and tasty. Taking your advice to start the cooking upside down gave excellent results. We roasted the giblets (minus the liver) with lots of vegetables, then added water and seasoning and simmered for about an hour before straining it to extract as much flavour as possible. With a little wine added, the resulting gravy was excellent. Our only complaint was that you had cut off most of the skin at the neck end so it was impossible to enclose the stuffing properly in the bird. This was a shame as a lot of the stuffing leaked out during cooking. This is the reason we didn’t give the bird a top rating.”

“I really like the ethics behind this company. Previously I have not been buying chicken because of welfare issues. But with one problem solved another appears and that is of course the necessary plastic packaging required to post this product. I will be looking into visiting the farm, as not too far away from me and bulk buying.”

Hi Rachel, Many thanks for your review. You would be more than welcome to come and have a look around the farm. Please just get in touch. An eco-version of our packaging is something we are looking into but as you can imagine ensuring the chicken arrives in perfect condition is a priority and so it is tricky and time consuming trying to find a high performance green option. If you are local buying in bulk or even just collecting from us would reduce the packaging. we look forward to seeing you soon. Emma

“The leg meat was in good sized chunks and was well packed. Being fresh it was easy to repack into freezing bags. Have only used a small portion. It was good in a curry but a little tough even after cooking for a long time. Great value for free range chicken.”

“We have been ordering chicken from herb fed for a while now. The chicken is amazing and so fresh. Freezes well and it does not spoil it. Emma and Edward are very helpful if you have a query. The portion sizes are huge and one breast will easily do a meal for two.”

“I haven’t made a purchase recently I bought my Christmas turkey which was great and tried to order some chicken in January but you had none. I love your company but I simply cannot work your website, so you lose my custom a lot as I have to ring you to order”

“This was my third year for ordering my Christmas turkey and have found each one very satisfying. As a loyal regular customer it is disappointing that a discount is not offered for subsequent early Christmas ordering although I note you have sent out an offer for ordering before end of March 2019 but for me this is far to early to order a Christmas turkey.”

“Turkey was a good size (a bit bigger than expected). I was a bit disappointed that giblets were not included. Nice touch to include stuffing recipe and some herbs (although I stuck to my own recipe!). Good taste, but we couldn't taste that the herb feeding made any difference.”

“We had a 4kg capon / cockerel for Christmas and it was absolutely delicious. It easily fed 10 with a bit left over. Our only concern was that we had to ring Herb Fed and ask them to chase for information on delivery, which they handled politely and promptly and the bird did arrived on 21st. These days, we shouldn't have had to panic and ring for information. Perhaps Herb Fed will review their delivery service for Christmas 2019.”

“The turkey was delicious! The packaging suggested there should be some fresh herbs included- but they weren’t there. However, it didn’t matter because we had some here anyway. Definitely would recommend Herb Fed for your Thanksgiving turkey.”

Thank you for the review. Sorry you were expecting giblets - We don't include giblets with our chickens as many people don't want them - if we have any in stock however when you next order and you mention it in your order we can include them. We will also be adding giblet packs to our shop after Christmas. To add- We do of course include giblets with all our Christmas roosters & turkeys.

“Roasted one of the whole chickens - very moist and tasty. Happy with the product. Only concern was with delivery. Diced breast (frozen) had started to slightly defrost in the corners of the bags when I unpacked my delivery (done as soon as received).”

“I have been very pleased with the quality of the meat. It is well-butchered and presented. The packaging ensures that the chicken arrives in excellent condition and the courier (APC) has delivered on time on two occasions. The flavour and texture is very good when the meat is cooked. There was a problem with my original order, which was missing some items when it arrived, but a phone call and a follow-up email resulted with the problem being put right and the missing items were delivered the following week.”
