“Can't fault the taste of the bird when it was cooked. It was delicious. But its presentation when I took it out of the box appalled me. Far too many burnt quills on the breast and legs - so no serving with skin on. Inside - very poorly prepared - worst I have ever come across and had to spend ages cleaning it out properly. There'd have to be an explanation before I'd consider ordering from you again.”

“I'm sorry guys but we are not impressed with your herbfed chicken so far we had the wings and legs yesterday and they didn't taste or smell Chickeny at all. The texture of the Chicken is a bit tough as well. Sorry folks but that's what we found. The crowns came all squashed as well.”

We are sorry to read that you were disappointed with the preparation of your rooster and thank you for your feedback. As you may have read, our Roosters were processed in a far more superior way in that they were game hung and dry plucked by hand and hence not all the quills were able to be removed and they appear different to other quality birds you may find. We hope the bird tasted wonderful and nonetheless are sorry that you were disappointed and appreciate feedback.

“Extremely disappointed. I thought I was buying a special cockerel which would be superior to the capons and Turkeys of previous years but I found it quite bland despite very carefully preparing it and cooking it. At the end of my Christmas dinner I felt so deflated and flat. I might as well have purchased a large chicken from my local butcher.”

Dear Mr Peters, This is just a courtesy reply as we are sorry that you did not find the bird to be as special as we'd hoped. We have won many awards for our birds and had some outstanding feedback from this years flock so are very sorry it was not to your liking, but appreciate your feedback.

“a great idea to buy free range herb fed poultry unfortunately this company has never heard of the climate crisis, about how plastic is destroying our oceans. they sent me my product wrapped in a tsunami of plastic. I have NEVER seen anything like it. I cut one clear plastic bag open and in side was another I cut that open inside was another and so it went on like a Russian fabusae egg unbelievable. I was not expecting this from this company ironic and sad. I would say however that the meat was good. nothing wrong there, just won't use them again because I don't need to kill the planet to eat.”

Thank you for your feedback - We are really pleased you enjoyed our chicken. Our packaging is something that we are looking into as we are conscious of the planet and our footprint. It is something that is proving tricky in terms of balancing performance of keeping poultry chilled in summer during delivery and in perfect condition versus costs. There are some wonderful products on the market but the costs are very high currently and would make an order cost prohibitive for many. Hi Mark, We really appreciate all feedback whether it be good, bad or indifferent. We are sorry to hear that and while we have had a lot of extremely positive feedback we are very sorry to hear you were disappointed you were with your turkey. I am not sure if you followed our cooking guide included with the turkey as game hung birds can be much quicker cook. We will come back to under separate email to get to the bottom of the issue. “Really disappointed this year. Cooked the turkey to the time suggested (in fact added 20 mins on to the time and my oven always seems to be on thge hot side). However, other than the top part of the breast when cutting further into the bird a couple of days later we were horrified to see it was very raw deep inside the bird even though the thermometer had indicated 65-70 degrees and juices on the thigh were running clear. We were also a bit disappointed with the taste this year too. Coincidentally, friends who had also bought a much smaller Herb Fed bird also said there's was underdone and had to put back in the oven. I think the timings quoted on your literature need to be adjusted. Very disappointed.”

HI Susan, While we have had a lot of extremely positive feedback we are very sorry to hear your feedback. With regard to cooking times we are very careful to include our recommended cooking times as the birds are much quicker to cook due to being game hung and free range. We do review cooking times but have used these times for the last 8 years however in light of your email we will of course review our cooking guidelines with the professional chef who supports us with this before next year.
