“For some unknown reason I have ended up restoring four oak framed windows from my son's current project, a house built in the 1850s. Unfortunately wrought iron screws were used to secure the cast iron window units and most of these had to be drilled out. There were also random nail holes holding the fixed glazed portions to the frames which again had to be drilled out. Since the opening portions and fixed windows are to be refitted the old screw holes needed to be suitably filled so that they would have sufficient strength to secure the new screws holding the refurbished cast iron units. Various sizes of white oak plugs were therefore required. A selection of sizes were ordered from G & S Specialist Timber and with some Gorilla Glue these have enabled me to fill the old screw and nail holes with solid oak plugs. The layers of old paint have been burnt off and after sanding and repainting the frames now look as good as new. The service from G & S has been little short of superb and I thoroughly recommend them. I will of course certainly use G &S again and thank you for solving my problem. John Dore-Dennis.”
