Good morning, Thank you for your review, we are sorry that your parcels were delayed with DX Freight. We are constantly trying to find alternative couriers however currently only DX are offering to deliver the 2.4 metre parcels in the bulk numbers that we send. Parcel got lost in transit. 4 days after ordering I still wasn’t offered a replacement. I was told fedex would investigate where it was. I’m now told it’s been located and could possibly arrive today. I haven’t even been refunded the postage cost. And now I’ve been asked to review it before it’s even arrived. Terrible customer service. Will definitely shop elsewhere in future.

Good morning, Thank you for your review, we have looked at the email conversation from yesterday regarding the lost parcel. After receiving your email on Saturday notifying us you hadn't received your order we contacted FedEx once they re-opened yesterday morning to start an investigation to locate the parcel. As we explained while FedEx were attempting to locate your parcel we couldn't organise a replacement as in all likely hood if we sent a replacement yesterday to be delivered today (Tuesday 27th) you would then receive the replacement and also the original at the same time. FedEx came back to us and confirmed the parcel had been located and had been upgraded to a pre-noon service for you. We have checked and the parcel is out for delivery today as promised via email yesterday. I have checked and the delivery cost was refunded yesterday as promised. We are sorry the parcel got lost but we have tried to resolve the issue as fast as possible for you. Kind regards G&S Specialist Timber

Disappointed at the supposed 10% discount sale that was in fact 8% due to sale on pre vat price. No transparency and could be described as misleading at best. One page of web site stated free postage over £45 but it turned out to be £50. Once I pointed out to Matt the sales exec, he disagreed and advised all web pages stated £50. When I re checked after advising him which page showed £45, it then showed £50 so had been promptly changed and then he denied that it ever existed. After several exchanges HE cancelled my order and arranged a refund. A very unsatisfactory experience.

Good afternoon, Thank you for your review. the 10% discount is offered as a full 10%. The value of your order wouldn't have changed whether the discount was applied off the nett price or gross price. Every product page shows the free delivery marker as £50.00, this hasn't been changed for the last few years and as it is part of the code of the website it isn't A quick or easy to do. You agreed to the cancellation of the order via an email reply, The refund was actioned we felt this was the best thing to do as you weren't happy about the value of the order and having to pay for postage. The 100 mm thick piece was a ,..hard and brittle and certainly not soft lime wood as described... case worse than not good.lime wood. Description on website....Is one of the easiest woods to work with when carving. Lime wood rarely warps. This make it suitable for small and large pieces for either carving or whittling. Despite being a hardwood. It takes in details as it is soft and crisp too carve. Sorry but. What a letdown Someone should carve a piece and they will see what I mean

The `basswood` was very hard and heavy, unlike basswood I get from other places. I was unable to use it for whittling and have had to throw it out.

Good afternoon, Thank you for your review. We are sorry you felt the blanks you purchased were too hard to carve. We import our Lime from Italy and it is ideal for wood carving. We have checked the same size blanks we have here that were cut from the same packs and after testing with sharp carving tools they carved well. I have no idea about the quality of your products as they have failed to reach me. Your courier of choice (DPD) initially gave out a delivery window estimate, then changed it without notice, and finally lied about attempted delivery. They then dropped off the goods to a collection point of their choosing, without any other alternative. This is not acceptable. You have also failed to respond to the issue when I emailed you about it. The DPD claim of 'we saved CO2' is a joke, if someone else has to travel to collect items where delivery charges have already been paid!

DPD will always deliver to the closest DPD collection point to your address. Not sure what's going on but DX tried to deliver just now whilst I was in the garden and then went away again. I never had notification from you or DX as to the delivery date. I'm far from happy

Item sent was not fit for purpose and on the phone they refused point blank to refund or replace. They were quite rude on the phone about the situation and they even had photos of the basswood I had received that was either not basswood or was certainly not suitable for carving. The reply was "sir, you just bought a piece of wood, wood is wood"!!!! BUYER BEWARE

Delivery damaged and still wait for a response before we take it further. Walnut rod we order also was damaged Plus the packaging is weak. If you charge for delivery this should be addressed. Luckily we paid with PayPal so if we don't here back this by the end of the week a dispute will be raised. Do not recommend

We received your email on Monday regarding the damage to the Walnut dowel, We replied at the time as we don't have anymore of the dowels or raw material in stock to replace the dowel and asked how you would like to proceed but didn't receive a response to this email. Poor service from DPD. (Courier)Replied to emails thinking it was getting to G and S, but emails were going to DPD (who did not respond) Spoke to someone at G and S and was sorted immediately.

Good Morning Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, and as we did try to explain to you, we can no longer accept telephone orders. This is because of recent fraudulent transactions over the phone. All orders are now to be placed through the website for stock items and anything bespoke can be emailed and we can send a proforma to you to pay directly by BACS. These are the safest ways to pay for both you - the customer and us - the business, protecting both parties. We are sorry to hear you aren't happy with our company procedure but we thank you for your order online which we received and despatched to you all within the same day. An online order also allows you to track your parcel via the email containing tracking information and keeps you informed on the process of your order. Kind regards G&S Team

I placed an order on the 26th July for dowels which I am still waiting to receive. Upon contacting G&s it seems my parcel was sent to the wrong address and I was reassured that they would contact the courier and get back to me on Monday. However, nobody made any attempt to contact me and instead I had to chase them for an update on my order. Not very happy with their response. I was told that they are waiting for the courier to get back to them. This isn't good enough. How long do I have to wait to receive my order, its already been a week. As a company they are not doing anyting to ensure I receive my order as a matter of urgency. G&s are ineffective, inefficient and lack sense of urgency. First and last time I will be using them.

Good morning, Thank you for your review. I am sorry you have experienced issues with your dowel delivery. I can see from our records that the order was placed on the 26th of July, dispatched on the 27th and delivered on the 28th. On Saturday (1st) we received a phone call stating that you hadn’t received your parcel, we explained we would need to contact DPD on Monday. We received word from DPD after office hours on Monday that they needed to start an investigation as they were unable to determine where the parcel had been left, based on this we will be re-sending your order out today. I am sorry you have had a wait for your order but we are working as fast as possible to get it resolved for you. Kind regards G&S

I purchased a wood carving V chisel from you. It was not what I wanted, I got in contact with a sales person and tried to explain, It was may intention to keep the chisel and purchase one more suitable to my needs. Your very rude sales person got quite irate and accused me me of shouting I tried to explain that I suffered COPD and Asbestosis and that I could not shout even if I wanted. I was not prepared to discuss the matter with this person any longer, terminated the call and spent the £70 with another company. i I will never deal with your company again certainly not recommend your company to anyone. Good morning, Thank you for your review. We are sorry that you have had a bad experience with your order. We have looked into this for you and spoken with the member of staff involved. He felt as though he was being shouted at especially when the first line of the phone call was "you have sent the wrong tool how are you going to sort it out". There was some confusion over the size you thought you had ordered and what was received but we were under the impression once this was resolved the phone call took a positive turn and the correct tool was confirmed. With the incorrectly ordered tool being returned to us for a full refund and the call ended on good terms. We are sorry that isn’t the case as we strive to deliver good service and sell a lot on recommendation. Once again we are sorry for any inconvenience caused. Kind regards G&S

Sold me a piece of oak with dry rot running through for the purpose of carving.refused to refund saying he cannot know what's inside the wood.but he still sold something that wasn't fit for purpose. £30 is expensive for a pensioner to pay for a piece of firewood.

Hello David, We are very sorry you are disappointed with your piece of oak. The piece of wood you selected was from an air-dried oak beam and wasn’t advertised or sold for the use of carving. Unfortunately you have carved the piece of timber to find some soft spots inside. We had no way of knowing this as it wasn’t visible on the outside of the piece of timber. You selected this piece of timber yourself from our offcut store and we had no way of knowing what you were planning to do with it. If you had told us that you were planning to carve this piece we would have recommended a laminated piece of kiln dried timber instead. This is a regrettable incident but you must be aware that wood isn’t a material that is predictable. Because you chose the wood yourself and we didn’t know what you were planning to do with it we don’t feel that any responsibility lies with us.

This has gone from irritating to farcical. Your alert system told me my parcel was due on 2nd Dec. Today, 8th Dec, it is yet to arrive. I’ve left my porch light on every evening (waste of electricity) & left my porch door unlocked (personal security issues) to aid courier. Deeply disappointed. Will not use your services again. purchased a colt maxicut forstner bit at a high cost of £140 I had 120 pieces to drill and after reading reviews thought great this is what i need .unfortunately first cut in to end grain timber the tool bounced around and did not cut disapointed at wasting £140

Good afternoon, Thank you for your review. We wouldn’t recommend drilling into end grain using an extension bar as the distance between the drill and the cutting end is too far for this.
