“The tools are absolutely top quality. It was shame that FedEx let the side down! I ordered the tools on Saturday 13th June, I received a email on Monday 15th saying they had been dispatched. On the Tuesday 16th I received an email from FedEx saying they would deliver that day between 11.50-13.50. They didn’t deliver that or the next day and eventually delivered on the Thursday. There excuse was they had a sub contractor working and he couldn’t deliver the items both days! Part from costing me £14.99 for the delivery and handling from G&S. So I would think hard about ordering from this company again!”

“I ordered 4 x 15mm Oak Dowels to make handles for a chest of drawers. The quality of the wood was exceptional, beautiful colour and grain and perfectly cut and finished. The only problem was the EXCESSIVE charge for shipping and handling - 5 times the cost of the items ordered!! Hence the 3 stars review. But unfortunately I couldn't buy them locally. G&S use FedEx for delivery, they're efficient but very expensive. I think they should have a much lower shipping charge, or use a cheaper delivery service, for small domestic orders. As a keen DIYer I like the products they offer but as a pensioner I doubt I will be buying from them again.”

“The online catalogue is not user friendly. I still don't know things like whether you qualify for free delivery if the price is over £80 before or after tax! I ordered extra in order to qualify for free delivery and then wasn't granted it, so had to phone up and complain. Helpful when I complained but at the end of the day I shouldn't have to complain!”

“Hi Garry, Shaun and the G&S Team I previously acquired dowls from Plugit Wood, but they were not suitable for my new project. I needed them to be 9.5mm X 1000mm straight with a consistent OD, this was not the case, and I therefor contacted your company in the hope of acquiring suitable dowels for my project. The 1M dowels I received from your company was not straight and the OD varied between 9,34mm and 9,45mm. The 500mm dowels were much straighter but the OD once again were not consistent. The below statement from your website encouraged me to try your Ash dowels “Each ash dowel is turned from a single piece of premium hardwood and sanded to a smooth finish. Manufactured with a strict tolerance of ±0.4mm,” It appears that it is not possible to produce straight wooden dowls of 1000mm X 9.5mm I will have to explore using Carbon Fibre Rods instead for my project. As stated in your review the tolerance on the diameter is + or - 0.4mm to allow for variation. If you would prefer you can also return the dowels for a full refund. Kind regards G&S

“The photo of the bottle purchased was not the same as the one that arrived. After enquiring with G&S Timber they assured me it was the same product? However ai did not find the product as effective as I hope.”

We can also see on your product review regarding the free delivery not being clear, we have tried to make the customers aware as much as possible and the website has at the top of every page a countdown timer and a link saying delivery information, we also have it on every page just below the header saying Free Delivery on Most orders over £80.00, we are sorry if this was missed. “Order arrived earlier than expected which was great. Prime grade as advertised, again great. Five of ten boards flat and machined well. Five bowed badly, stick marks showed only supported at ends while drying, middle stick missing. Shame otherwise 5 star.”

“Nice piece of walnut, alas not very accurately machined -- 35mm dowel measures 35.8mm, so fitting into a hole made by a 35mm Forstner bit requires some tedious fettling. Claimed tolerance of +/-0.4mm isn't really very good, and still missed.”

“I have ordered several batches of dowel over the last few years. I need these to be very straight for the purpose I use them for. Unfortunately, some of the longer 2400 lengths have been bent and warped. I appreciate that there may be some slight warping, but it would be good if you could please inspect future orders to try and ensure as straight as possible. Thanks”

Hi, We are sorry that some of the 18mm dowels are bent and warped, unfortunately this will always happen due to the small diameter and the timber picked. Tulipwood is the softest hardwood we offer and the fact the diameter is small relative to the length at this diameter the dowel will sag unfortunately. Tulipwood is a cheaper dowel for more strength we would recommend Sapele or Beech in this diameter but unfortunately at 2400mm long and 18mm diameter the dowels will sometimes sag. “I have to admit that I was not that happy with product. To be entirely honest, I expected far more for the extra price. However, ahntough in general the blades were very sharp, the tips were eitehr burred and so had to be ground down to make them workable or there was a fraction missing and so the points did not come a sharp point that I had expected and thus, this made the blade less effective. I was considering asking for a refund as I I had bouught the set of 3 blades and another separate one so that I had a whole set of the four, but apart from these limits and hopefully they will improve their quality control as it really needs to be vastly improved, they cut even poor quality basswood very well. Having said the above, I would be dubious about recommending this product by Flexcut and as I have bought a lot of Flexcut products in the past and I found them to be a tad overpriced for what they are, I was very disappointed at having bought what I thought was the best blades on the market. From my experience, the tips of the blades need to be montorered with far greater care!”

“The response time and postage excellent Two of the three dowels were good but one had quite a severe warp, fortunately we only needed two at the full length and can cut most of the warp out which is why we didn’t complain.”

“Good Service and prompt deliver! However, one of the 5 pieces orderd was a paler shade than the others and it was only after the pieces were glued up into an assembly for carving that I realised that it was a different timber, possibly tulipwood. Too late to backtrack, so I shall have to soldier on and attempt to disguise the difference. This is very disappointing. I am unable to attach a photo in this reviw but will send by separate email”

Good morning, Thank you for your review. After looking at the image you have sent us we can confirm all the pieces are lime. As lime is a natural timber product there will be colour variation piece to piece. We are sorry it is disappointing for you however our picking team wouldn’t take into account slight colour variations as they will have been unaware that the pieces would be getting laminated together. “Wood delivery on time, but delivered to a neighbour's house rather than mine, with no note through door ar any communication. DPD's fault rather than G&S. At least my neighbour brought the parcel round for me.”

“I have recently order 10 of these for project in two separate orders . Out these three have internal splits in critical places and I have had to use them for smaller projects and will have to order some more but you have none left.I appreciate you cant see these but it's a bit anoying.”
